Reggie, STAR #2102

We love stray-to-success stories and especially this one for Reggie. He was found by a rescue group helping abandoned dogs at site where there is frequent dog dumping in Cleveland, Texas. He was the 3-Cs – scared, skinny and sick with both skin problems and heartworms. His STAR foster home took care of his every need and now we are so happy we found him a wonderful family with Pam and Andrew. Handsome Reggie may become a running buddy with Andrew and walking buddy with Pam – but no matter what, we know he will continue to get all the TLC! 💙 A bright future and a heart full of love!🐾

This handsome boy came to STAR through a rescue group helping abandoned dogs at a dump site north of Houston near Cleveland, Texas. Since joining STAR, Reggie has absolutely blossomed. He has been treated with heartworms, neutered, microchipped, fully vaccinated, and has gained healthy weight — now weighing in at a perfect 38 pounds. Most importantly, he’s now knowing that life can be safe, happy, and full of love.

Estimated to be around 1 year old, Reggie is a young dog with plenty of curiosity and personality. He can be playful and exuberant, but he’s surprisingly well-mannered for his age and not overly high-energy. He’s the kind of dog who enjoys playtime and adventure but also settles nicely and enjoys simply being near his people.

Reggie gets along wonderfully with his Aussie foster roommates, both male and female, and enjoys a good wrestling session or playful zoomie now and then. He’s active and agile – and would likely do well with agility or even dock diving!? He’s entertaining to watch when he plays and runs.

He has not been tested with cats, although he is definitely interested in the squirrels, birds, and other critters he spots outside. He’s not tested with children – but with good parent-management of kids, he’d be a good buddy.

He’s also learning all the good house-dog skills. Reggie willingly goes into his crate when offered a treat and relaxes quietly once inside. He rides well in the car and enjoys being included in outings.

One of his sweetest qualities is how often he checks in with his person for reassurance, affection, and a few gentle pets. He’s truly a lovely boy ready to give his family lots of love.

Reggie is ready for a forever family who will continue showing him that life is great. In return, he’ll give you loyalty, companionship, and the joy of watching a resilient young dog truly thrive.

IMPORTANT: We do not deliver dogs to adopters. You must be able and willing to come meet the dog in their foster home. A home visit by one of our STAR volunteers is a required part of our adoption program. Adoptions outside of Texas are rare because of these requirements. You must have a secure fence in place, and we are not fans of apartments for this breed, nor homes where the dogs will be home alone 8+ hours daily. All STAR dogs are adopted to be inside pets and family members only and all current or past pets in the home must have proof of being kept up to date on vaccinations and Heartworm prevention. The adoption fee is $300 and trust us, we spend that or much more on dogs to get them vetted – all STAR dogs will be neutered/spayed, up to date on vaccinations, microchipped, heartworm negative, and on monthly heartworm prevention. Reggie is a red tri male that was found/dumped in the Cleveland, Texas area. The Daily Kibble, an incredible team on the ground, helping dogs in that area, reached out to us for help and we were able to send one of our amazing volunteers over to pick him up. Reggie has been to our vet and is estimated to be a young guy at around 7-9 months old and currently 30lbs (malnourished so expect him to put on weight). Sadly, he is positive for heartworms, so we’ll treat him and he may be available late June. Stay tuned to learn more about this sweet fellow.
