Louie, STAR #2162

Lucky Louie is heading home with Thomas, and life is going to be great! He’ll join this lovely family and get an Aussie buddy to hang out, go on hikes, patrol the property, and enjoy the ranch life in New Mexico. So happy for him and this perfect match. Thank you, Mark and Mary for a wonderful foster job while we looked for his forever home.

💙 Louie is a sweet, sunny, happy-go-lucky pup who is looking for someone ready for a very devoted best friend. He’s an 8-month-old black tri male, currently around 40lbs.

Personal space? Louie has never heard of it. If you’re his person, he wants to be beside you, behind you, on top of you – or somehow all three at once.

Louie is all about FUN. He loves fetch, frisbees, tug, balls, Kong toys and a good romp with his canine foster siblings. He’s even discovered the joys of swimming and thinks bringing his frisbee into the pool makes the game even better. Louie would thrive in a home with at least one sturdy, playful, confident dog who can be both his buddy and his role model. Or, his home needs to be ready to give him lots of mental stimulation and exercise!

For all his enthusiasm, Louie is a sensitive guy. New or noisy things can make him unsure, and he looks to his people and canine friends for reassurance. He’s smart, eager to please and responds very well to gentle correction. He knows sit, is working on other basic commands and is learning quickly.

Louie sleeps quietly through the night in his crate and is doing great with housetraining. He’s a good car rider and seems like the kind of dog who will be happiest tagging along on adventures, or “helping” with whatever his person happens to be doing around the house.

His former owner reported some resource guarding around food, treats and toys, but his foster family has not observed any guarding behavior. He eats near the other dogs without issue and regularly brings them toys to start a game.

Louie has decided cats should obviously want to play with him and can be persistent about trying to convince them, so a cat-free home would be best. He should do well with older children, but his current rough-and-tumble puppy play may be a bit much for little ones.

Louie is still young, still learning and appears to have some growing left to do. His ideal home will give him plenty of playtime, continued training, and most importantly, people who enjoy having a four-legged shadow.

If you’re looking for an affectionate, playful, slightly goofy sidekick who wants to be part of absolutely everything you do, Louie may be your guy.

Louie is house trained, microchipped, fully vaccinated, and current on heartworm prevention. He will be adopted out with a neuter contract (we will help cover this expense). He is currently fostered in a home in Austin. If you’d like to learn more about him or are interested in adopting, the first step is to complete an adoption application at the link below.
10 IMPORTANT THINGS:  1) We do not deliver dogs to adopters – you must be able and willing to come meet the dog in their foster home. 2) A home visit by one of our STAR volunteers is a required part of our adoption program and thus, adoptions outside of Texas are rare because of these two requirements. 3) You must have a secure fence in place, 4) we are not fans of apartments for this active breed 5) we do not adopt to families with children under the age of 6, 6) we will not adopt to homes where the dogs will be alone 8+ hours daily, 7) All STAR dogs are adopted to be inside pets and family members only, 8) All current or past pets in the home must have proof of being kept up to date on vaccinations and Heartworm prevention. 9) Once you have met a dog and decide you’d like to adopt, you have 7-days to adopt the dog – we do not hold dogs, so be ready to adopt when you apply.  10) The adoption fee is $400 and trust us, we spend that or much more on dogs to get them vetted – all STAR dogs will be neutered/spayed (unless puppy), up to date on vaccinations, microchipped, heartworm negative, and on monthly heartworm prevention.

Louie is a precious 8 month old black tri male and weighs 40 pounds.  Louie spent the first 6 months of his life in a kennel 12 hours a day while his owner was at work.  He was released to a small rescue in East Texas where he wasn’t getting the exposure he needed to be adopted.  STAR wanted to help!

Louie will be fostered in the Austin area until ready for adoption.  He should be ready towards the end of September.  Looking forward to learing all about this happy guy!
