ADOPTED

Ozzy, STAR #2167

Ozzy caught the eye of the Green family and adoption was a slam-dunk! Ozzy gets an Aussie buddy – Layla and a big back yard for play time. They lost their other Aussie, Wyatt back in May, and decided to add to the family and chose to rescue this time around. Welcome to our STAR family. Thank you, Reagan for a wonderful foster job and to Sue for the home visit.

Activity level / Enrichment

They have a dog walker that comes twice a week.  This is because they have a relationship with this company and want to keep seniority.  Kelly walks Layla 2-3 times daily.  They will teach a new dog how to enter, exit and float in the pool if the dog is interested.  Layla loves floating in the pool.  They have a lot of toys for enrichment.  There is a deer lease in Fredericksburg where the dogs are also exercised.  There is a ‘safe area’ behind their house where they allow Layla off leash so she can really run.

💙 Meet Ozzy!

Ozzy is a sweet 8-year-old, 60-pound black tri Australian Shepherd looking for a loving home where he can settle in and be someone’s best friend.

He loves his walks and is a wonderful leash companion. Ozzy has done very well with other dogs, including puppies, and has enjoyed trips to the dog park. He can occasionally get a little possessive of a favorite toy, but he responds well to redirection.

At home, Ozzy is calm and easygoing. He is fully house trained, sleeps through the night, rarely barks, and has had no accidents in his foster home. He is kennel trained but has also done great being left loose in the house for a few hours.

Ozzy knows sit and down and is working on stay, wait, and other household manners. He is affectionate, eager to please, and responds well to calm, consistent guidance. He has been wonderful with every adult he has met. His experience with children is unknown, so a home with older children would be best.

Ozzy does have some mild separation anxiety, but he is already making good progress. A home where someone is around fairly often and can provide regular walks, companionship, and a consistent routine would be a great fit.

Ozzy is recovering well from his recent neuter, microchipped, up to date on vaccinations and heartworm prevention, and is at a healthy weight. A routine dental cleaning would be something for his future family to consider.

Ozzy is a sweet, social, well-mannered boy who is incredibly easy to love. He’s ready to find a home where he can feel secure, enjoy his favorite walks, and spend plenty of time close to his people.

Ozzie is currently fostered in a home in Austin. If you’d like to learn more about him or are interested in adopting, the first step is to complete an adoption application at the link below.
10 IMPORTANT THINGS:  1) We do not deliver dogs to adopters – you must be able and willing to come meet the dog in their foster home. 2) A home visit by one of our STAR volunteers is a required part of our adoption program and thus, adoptions outside of Texas are rare because of these two requirements. 3) You must have a secure fence in place, 4) we are not fans of apartments for this active breed 5) we do not adopt to families with children under the age of 6, 6) we will not adopt to homes where the dogs will be alone 8+ hours daily, 7) All STAR dogs are adopted to be inside pets and family members only, 8) All current or past pets in the home must have proof of being kept up to date on vaccinations and Heartworm prevention. 9) Once you have met a dog and decide you’d like to adopt, you have 7-days to adopt the dog – we do not hold dogs, so be ready to adopt when you apply.  10) The adoption fee is $400 and trust us, we spend that or much more on dogs to get them vetted – all STAR dogs will be neutered/spayed (unless puppy), up to date on vaccinations, microchipped, heartworm negative, and on monthly heartworm prevention.

Ozzy is an 8 year-old black tri male and weighs 60lbs.  He was released to STAR because the family is busy with lots of activities with two small children and Ozzy was spending lots of time alone.

Ozzy will be fostered and vetted in the Austin area and should be ready for adoption early October.
