Kona, STAR #2157

We found the perfect home for this perfect boy! Kona has been adopted by the Miller family, and this is their first STAR dog. Back yard play and possibly evening becoming a running buddy with dad are on the agenda, in addition to having two youngsters to hang out with.  Thank you, Juli for fostering this good boy and to Sheila for the home visit.

💙 Meet Kona — A Loyal Heart Looking for His Person

Kona is a sweet, sensitive boy with a big personality and an even bigger capacity to love. Be prepared to have a devoted shadow! He is a black bi male, around 3 years old and 55lbs.

Belly rubs, head scritches and staying close to his favorite human are pretty much Kona’s love languages. At home, Kona is an easy companion who appreciates routine. He’s perfectly happy relaxing nearby while his people work, occasionally entertaining himself with a toy—although plush toys should know that their stuffing may not survive the experience!

Outside, Kona comes alive. Frisbee is his absolute favorite, and he’ll happily keep the game going as long as your throwing arm holds out. He also enjoys walks, sniffing games and enrichment activities that put his Aussie brain to work. And he recently discovered the garden hose, which apparently ranks right up there with frisbees as one of life’s greatest inventions.

Kona is smart and enjoys learning. He knows “sit,” is working on “stay” and “drop it,” and does best with short, upbeat training sessions. He loves his walks and is very excited to get going – he walks nicely on leash.

Kona’s can be weary with unfamiliar people and situations at first. He may bark at strangers when he’s unsure – but warms up quickly and then the affectionate, silly boy emerges. Kona’s love-language is positive reinforcement and high-value treats don’t hurt either! Kona would like it officially noted that cheese is particularly persuasive!

And Kona definitely has opinions. He’s quite the chatterbox and isn’t afraid to let you know when another belly rub, a little attention or just one more round of frisbee seems appropriate.

Kona would thrive as an only dog – getting all the attention. He can co-exist with other dogs – but he does like to be 1st in line for food and love. We recommend a kid-free home. In his time with STAR, we know he bonds deeply with his caregivers and thrives when he can be the center of his family’s attention.

Kona’s looking for his people — who will appreciate his loyal heart and give him stability and love in return. He’ll give back something pretty special: a funny, affectionate and incredibly devoted companion who wants nothing more than to share everyday life right by your side.

Kona is house trained, neutered, microchipped, fully vaccinated, and current on heartworm prevention. He is currently fostered in San Antonio and he’s ready for your home! If you’d like to learn more about him or are interested in adopting, the first step is to complete an adoption application at the link below.
10 IMPORTANT THINGS: 1) We do not deliver dogs to adopters – you must be able and willing to come meet the dog in their foster home. 2) A home visit by one of our STAR volunteers is a required part of our adoption program and thus, adoptions outside of Texas are rare because of these two requirements. 3) You must have a secure fence in place, 4) we are not fans of apartments for this active breed 5) we do not adopt to families with children under the age of 6, 6) we will not adopt to homes where the dogs will be alone 8+ hours daily, 7) All STAR dogs are adopted to be inside pets and family members only, 8 ) All current or past pets in the home must have proof of being kept up to date on vaccinations and Heartworm prevention. 9) Once you have met a dog and decide you’d like to adopt, you have 7-days to adopt the dog – we do not hold dogs, so be ready to adopt when you apply. 10) The adoption fee is $400 and trust us, we spend that or much more on dogs to get them vetted – all STAR dogs will be neutered/spayed, up to date on vaccinations, microchipped, heartworm negative, and on monthly heartworm prevention.

Kona is a handsome 3-year-old black tri male and weighs 55 pounds.  His owners have small children and don’t have the time or energy to give Kona the life and attention he needs.  They made the difficult decision to release him to STAR. Kona is being fostered and evaluated in the San Antonio area and should be ready for adoption in mid-September.  Stay tuned while we learn all about this sweet boy.
