Jesse, STAR #2165

Sweet Jesse has found her way home with the Johnson family. They lost their Aussie a year ago and after giving it a bit of time – knew they wanted another and reached to STAR. Thank you, Lauren for fostering this good girl, and to Tracy for the home visit.

💕 Ready to be Jesse’s Family?

If your idea of a perfect day includes a leisurely stroll, a little sunshine and plenty of couch time, Jesse may be your girl. Jesse is a gorgeous 3-year-old, 40-pound blue merle Australian Shepherd who seems to have missed the memo that Aussies are supposed to be constantly on the go. This sweet girl operates at a decidedly more relaxed pace and she’s perfectly happy that way.

Walks with Jesse are more about enjoying the journey than reaching the destination. She takes her sweet time, walks nicely on a leash and harness, and happily wags her tail at just about everyone she encounters- even passing cars seem worthy of a friendly hello.

Jesse LOVES other dogs and enjoys playing with her canine friends, but she’s equally content doing her own thing. Give her a few toys, a bone or a sunny spot and she can happily entertain herself. Sunbathing is serious business for Jesse, and once she finds the perfect patch of sunshine, good luck convincing her there’s somewhere else she needs to be.

She’s affectionate without being demanding, unless you count quietly lying beside you and staring up with those big brown eyes until you realize you’ve clearly forgotten something very important: petting Jesse.

Jesse rides nicely in the car, settling into her dog bed in the back seat and occasionally popping up to enjoy the view. She can also stay home alone without issue and is perfectly content to curl up on the couch and wait for her people to return. Once you’re home, though, she’ll happily follow along to supervise whatever you’re doing.

Every now and then, Jesse reminds us there really is an Aussie under all that chill. She’ll break out a few minutes of zoomies or spot a squirrel and suddenly discover an entirely different gear. Then it’s right back to her regularly scheduled lounging.

Jesse is good with children and would enjoy a home with another friendly, playful but lower-energy dog. She’s also just fine with her favorite person or people. She has not been tested with cats, so we can’t say how she would do with them.

For someone looking for a gentle, easygoing companion rather than a high-octane Aussie, Jesse could be just about perfect. She doesn’t need life to move fast. She just wants a comfy couch, a little sunshine, a dog friend and someone to love.

Jesse is ready to stop and smell the roses with her forever family. She is house trained, spayed, microchipped, fully vaccinated, and current on heartworm prevention. She is currently fostered in a home in San Antonio. If you’d like to learn more about her or are interested in adopting, the first step is to complete an adoption application at the link below.

10 IMPORTANT THINGS: 1) We do not deliver dogs to adopters – you must be able and willing to come meet the dog in their foster home. 2) A home visit by one of our STAR volunteers is a required part of our adoption program and thus, adoptions outside of Texas are rare because of these two requirements. 3) You must have a secure fence in place, 4) we are not fans of apartments for this active breed 5) we do not adopt to families with children under the age of 6, 6) we will not adopt to homes where the dogs will be alone 8+ hours daily, 7) All STAR dogs are adopted to be inside pets and family members only, 8 ) All current or past pets in the home must have proof of being kept up to date on vaccinations and Heartworm prevention. 9) Once you have met a dog and decide you’d like to adopt, you have 7-days to adopt the dog – we do not hold dogs, so be ready to adopt when you apply. 10) The adoption fee is $400 and trust us, we spend that or much more on dogs to get them vetted – all STAR dogs will be neutered/spayed, up to date on vaccinations, microchipped, heartworm negative, and on monthly heartworm prevention

Jesse is a blue merle female with full tail and weighs 40 pounds.  She is estimated to be 2 years-old.  She was dumped in South Texas and a good Samaritan brought her in and contacted STAR.  Lots of people jumped through hoops for this sweet girl until we could find a foster home.  Thank you, Alesandra, our South Texas angel!

Jesse will be fostered in the San Antonio area where she will be vetted and evaluated.  She should be ready for adoption towards the end of September.  Jesse’s life just got a whole lot better!
