Leia, STAR # 1227
Adopted Leia, STAR # 1227
Sweet shy black tri found at the Brazoria County Sheriff Office Animal Control. She had been hit but a car and her hip were dislocated. Almost two months later, she has recovered and today ready to go to her new home. The Phillips family live in Austin and have two girls that she already loves.. Lots of walks and therapy in her future. Thanks to John for picking her up at the shelter and huge thanks to the Hart family for loving her so much.
Below is the bio was written by Leia’s foster mom. She sent this photo and says about her “every time she looks at me, her ears go down into the “oh I love you so much” look !!”
“Leia is a fabulous girl! She is about 1 1/2 years old. She is completely housebroken and crate trained. She came to us with a dislocated hip and has gone through surgery to fix it. She was incredibly sweet before the surgery, even though she was clearly in pain. After the surgery she was a wonderful patient and has continued to be a joy to have in our home. Leia is still healing and continues to get better every day. The vet who did her surgery said he thinks there is a good chance that she will not have a limp once she is fully healed. She loves to run around the backyard and play with my two dogs. When she runs, she tucks her back leg up and that is something that will have to be worked on through therapy. Leia is very good about stretching her leg all on her own and she does let us take her through her stretches.
Leia will be a great addition to any home. She is a shy girl who takes a little time to warm up to new people, but once she knows you she loves you forever. My daughter, Jacqueline, is her favorite person to be around. Jacqueline sits on the floor with her and Leia comes up to her and just puts her face against Jacqueline’s chest. I have no doubt that once her leg is healed she will be very good at snuggling. Leia is crated during the day while I am out of the house (only for a few hours at most) because she has gotten into my kids’ stuffed animals a few times. She is very well behaved other than a fondness for Darth Vader slippers! Her crate is definitely her safe place and she runs in there when people come over, or if there is a loud noise. She is good about greeting people that come over, but she does take a few minutes to get used to the situation while in her crate. You just have to make sure that people know that she needs to come to them, and it is better if they are sitting down. She has never growled at anyone or anything while we have had her. Any precautions that need to be taken care for her comfort and not for the safety of those around her. She is a love that would never hurt a fly!
I know that Leia will be an amazing pet and with a little love and reassurance, she will blossom! We truly love her and she has been the most perfect house guest.”
Leia is a very small black Tri female weighing just under 35 lbs. and just over a year old. Her adopter will have to continue to see that she uses her repaired leg. Some stretching exercises are recommended. She would probably do best with another dog and of course, hopefully, another little girl.
Leia’s foster home is in the Woodlands. If you would like to meet her please fill out our STAR adoption application.
