Lady Camelot “Camo” has been adopted by the Cardenas family. They lost their beloved dog, Lady – took time to grieve and when ready, reached out to STAR. Camo will get to the be the only dog and get all the attention with lots of walks and back yard play. Thank you, Emily for a great foster job and to Tracy for the home visit.
Lady Camelot “Camo” is a loving, people‑oriented girl who has settled beautifully into her foster home and is now ready to find a family of her own. She is a 1-yr old and is around 45lbs. She was released to STAR by her owner who was unable to give her the attention she needs. Here’s a bio from her foster mom:
Camo forms strong bonds with her humans, especially men, and once she decides you’re her person, she’ll happily follow you from room to room just to stay close. She’s a true Velcro companion who wants to be part of your day, whether you’re working, relaxing, or puttering around the house.
Camo is affectionate, eager to please, and motivated by love and praise. She has a great name recall – likely because it means she’s running back to you for love, pets, and hugs. If you sit on the couch or floor, be prepared: she tries to cosplay as a lapdog, blissfully unaware of her size… or your personal boundaries! She tries so hard to understand what you’re asking for, and her gentle nature would likely make her a good match with mindful, dog-savvy kids (slow intros!).
During the day, she prefers to rest wherever her people are, always keeping you company, enjoying the occasional head scritches. She is not very independent and won’t play by herself, so she needs regular attention to keep her engaged. Chewies or dog puzzles will only be solved if you are in her same room. That being said, she does very well in her crate and sleeps soundly at night.
Camo enjoys the company of other dogs and would thrive in a home with a playful, midsized canine friend. She loves to play, but she doesn’t always realize how big she is compared to small dogs, so a similarly sized buddy is ideal. She initially showed some resource guarding when toys were introduced too quickly, but with slow, positive introductions, she’s now comfortable sharing and coexisting peacefully. She’s gentle with her stuffed toys and takes excellent care of them – she’s a stuffy connoisseur, not a destroyer.
Camo is smart and eager to learn but with gentle guidance, especially when training sessions are short, focused, and fun. She’s working on holding attention, so brief bursts of training help her stay engaged and successful. She’s currently improving her leash walking, although she gets very excited when she sees other people or dogs. She doesn’t appear to have a strong interest in cats. She is learning to “drop it” rather than wander around the backyard with her prized stuffies and is getting better at sitting on command rather than only using contextual clues. Because Camo was spayed recently, we’ve been playing a lot of sniff games so she’s enjoying learning how to follow her nose on purpose. We are also working on building her confidence, especially around loud noises and thunder where reassurance and positive reinforcement help her feel safe.
She’s not strongly food‑motivated, but affection and praise light her up. Cheese, however, is her one irresistible exception (who can blame her?).
Camo is respectful of yard boundaries and doesn’t try to escape—she’s more interested in staying close to us or our resident dog rather than exploring the perimeter. She saves her athletic talents for the important things in life, like pouncing dramatically on a tossed ball. She’s not a fence‑jumper; she’s a joyful ball‑pouncer.
She is a slow, thoughtful eater who sometimes needs encouragement to finish her meals, especially if it’s just dry kibble. She appreciates a little variety or something tasty mixed in.
Camo will thrive in a home that wants a loving, loyal companion who sticks close and enjoys being part of the family’s daily rhythm. She’d be especially happy with a playmate who can match her energy. A patient, encouraging home that enjoys training and can help her continue building confidence and respond to training commands would be ideal.

Camo’s home is in San Antonio. Since with STAR, she’s been fully vaccinated, is HW-, on heartworm preventative, and been spayed. Please complete an application to be considered as an adopter, learn more about and meet her.
Camo is a beautiful 1 year old blue merle female and weighs 45lbs. She came to us as an owner release. She was spending a lot of time alone with her owners working out of the house. Camo will be spayed, vetted and evaluated in San Antonio and should be available for adoption in late March.
