Hank, STAR #2065

It was LOVE at first sight between Hank and Samantha so this good boy has been adopted! He went from hanging around a truck stop to STAR to a wonderful spot where he’s going to get all the TLC and fun he deserves. Thank you, Geneta for another great foster job and to Mary for the home visit.  Yea, Hank!!

Hank was found as a stray hanging around a truck stop. He’s been a STAR dog for a few weeks, is fully vetted and ready to find his forever home. He’s roughly 2-3 years old and smaller in size at around 38lbs.  Here’s information on Hank from his foster mom:

Hank has settled in and is much more relaxed here than when he first arrived. He’s no longer depressed and spends a lot of time in the toy box and or playing with his Aussie siblings. He still has periods of time when he will sit and stare out the door as if waiting for someone.

Hank plays with all three of my Aussies in the home but really prefers to wrestle with the one that is roughly his same size. There has never been an issue with resource guarding.  He will sit in line with the other dogs and wait for his name to be called for a cookie or treat.  At breakfast time he goes to the crate in which he gets fed and await delivery of his meal.

Hank will occasionally check the gates to the yard to see if they are latched but does not try to get out.  When we are getting ready for our walks he sits quietly by the gate for me to put the leash on and then walks calmly out the gate.

Hank is a maniac for a ball.  I limit his time with the ball because he gets so excited and insist that you play with him. He always brings it back and lays it in your lap, ready to repeat the fun. I hide the ball when I’m not available to play. He also likes his stuffies and will play with them on his own. After a round of ball playing, he will curl up in your lap and nap.  He really likes to spend time close to his human.  Hank does get on the furniture to play and sleep.

At night, Hank either sleeps by my bed or in the crate at the end of the bed.  The crate is open and he can go in and out as he wants.  I think that Hank would love to be invited to join you in the bed.

Hank is house trained and there have been no accidents. He will go to the door and whine a bit to let you know he needs to go outside.

Hank is a Velcro dog. He prefers to know where his human is at all times – you will never potty alone again, ha-ha. Hank prefers to nap next to me but some of his other favorite spots are the raised dog beds, the sofa or at my feet.

Hank is pretty good on a leash, but he pulls a little.  I think this is because my dogs are off leash on walks and sometimes run by or run to us and Hank wants to run with them. I think with everyone on a leash or only him on a leash he doesn’t pull.  He did try to chase a crane that took off from the pond.  He was mesmerized by the bird.

Hank can be a very prancy little guy. He is very gentle and like to put his front feet on your waist for attention but does so very gently.

Hank seems to be very healthy pup and doesn’t seem to have any behavioral issues. He is a bit of a licker I have had a great deal of company while he’s been here and not a single person was greeted as a stranger.  He liked everyone and wanted everyone to pet him.  I think once he is home and has his own person (doesn’t seem to have a preference of man or woman) his confidence will grow and he will flourish to be a wonderful, cherished member of a family.

He’d do fine as an only dog, or he would do great with a sibling as he does enjoy playing with the other dogs.”

Hank was found at a truck stop in Northeast Texas and was dodging cars and almost hit. A good Samaritan put him in her car and could not find an owner. He had no collar and no chip. She’s had him since July but could no longer keep him as she already has several dogs and he was slipping through the cattle fence. He is a black tri male, approximately 2-3 years old and 38lbs. He’s now safely with a STAR foster home in Houston where he’ll be fully vetted and evaluated. He may be available late January 2026.
