Cooper has found his forever home with the Adams family. Tonya recently lost her Aussie, Penny and after taking a bit of time – decided she was ready to add another fur buddy to the family and she chose to rescue.  Thank you, Lisa for fostering this good boy and giving him so much TLC until he was ready to be adopted. 💙Cooper is a stunning 5-year-old, 50-pound black tri–Australian Shepherd with movie-star looks and an even more beautiful heart. 💙

His rich black coat is dusted with gorgeous copper highlights that make him truly one of a kind, and his soulful brown eyes have a way of melting hearts wherever he goes.

As handsome as Cooper is, his greatest gift is his gentle, loving nature. He is the definition of a teddy bear—calm, affectionate, and happiest when he’s curled up beside his favorite person on the couch or snuggled next to them in bed. He isn’t looking for adventure nearly as much as he’s looking for someone to love.

When Cooper first arrived at his foster home, he was understandably confused and spent several days searching for the family he had always known. Like many dogs experiencing such a big life change, he needed time, patience, and reassurance before he could relax. Once he realized he was safe, his true personality blossomed into the sweetest, most devoted companion anyone could ask for.

Because of this, Cooper will do best with an adopter who understands that relationships are built on trust. He appreciates slow, gentle introductions to new people and new environments and benefits from having a little time to decompress. Give him that gift, and you’ll discover an incredibly loyal dog who forms deep bonds with his people. Cooper also prefers not to spend long days home alone—he truly thrives when he can be part of everyday family life.

One of Cooper’s favorite places is his crate, which serves as his own little sanctuary. Toss a blanket over it, and he’s perfectly content to relax whenever the house gets busy or noisy. He’s fully house-trained, walks nicely on a leash, enjoys being brushed with a soft bristle brush, and is a perfect gentleman indoors. He doesn’t chew on furniture or dig in the yard, preferring his chew toys and an occasional raw beef bone instead.

Cooper has done wonderfully with his foster mom’s female Aussie after a thoughtful, slow introduction, and the two have become the best of friends. He’s generally quiet, rarely barks, and has a wonderfully easygoing temperament. He would likely do well with respectful older children (about 8 years and up), although he has not been evaluated with toddlers or babies.

A home with a securely fenced yard where he can enjoy lounging in the grass and shade would be ideal. That said, Cooper is an indoor dog through and through. After a little time outside, he’ll politely stand at the window with those irresistible brown eyes, patiently letting you know he’s ready to come back inside and be with his people.

Cooper is heartworm negative, neutered, fully vaccinated, microchipped, and current on heartworm prevention. He is being fostered in the San Antonio area.

IMPORTANT: We do not deliver dogs to adopters. You must be able and willing to come meet the dog in their foster home. A home visit by one of our STAR volunteers is a required part of our adoption program. Adoptions outside of Texas are rare because of these requirements. You must have a secure fence in place, and we are not fans of apartments for this breed, nor homes where the dogs will be home alone 8+ hours daily. All STAR dogs are adopted to be inside pets and family members only and all current or past pets in the home must have proof of being kept up to date on vaccinations and Heartworm prevention. The adoption fee is $400 and trust us, we spend that or much more on dogs to get them vetted – all STAR dogs will be neutered/spayed, up to date on vaccinations, microchipped, heartworm negative, and on monthly heartworm prevention. INROCooper is a stunning 5-year old black tri male with some unusual color markings.  He weighs 50 pounds.  He came to STAR at no fault of his own.  His owners had some family medical issues and were not able to give him the time and attention he needs.  We will find Cooper a great home.  He is being fostered in the San Antonio area and should be ready for adoption the beginning of August.
