Bruce, STAR #2118

Bruce (r) has found his furever home with alum family, the Holders. He will join Cowboy, STAR #2019 ’26 (next to mom, interested in his brother’s cookie!) and go on lots of adventures with a big back yard to run in and chase squirrels. Thank you to the Holders for coming back to find another STAR dog for your family and to Audrey for a wonderful foster job.

🐾 Bruce: 68 Pounds of Love, Loyalty, and Belly Rub Requests 🐾

If you’ve been dreaming of a devoted best friend who will adore you with his whole heart, it’s time to meet Bruce.

This handsome 2-year-old black tri–Australian Shepherd weighs in at about 68 pounds and is proof that sometimes the best things in life come in extra-large packages. Bruce came to STAR from a breeding situation along with several other dogs. When he first arrived, the world was a scary and uncertain place. Thanks to patience, love, and a caring foster home, that timid boy has blossomed into a sweet, affectionate companion who is ready to discover what it means to be part of a family.

Bruce has never met a stranger. Visitors are greeted with the standard Aussie wiggle-butt, a friendly nudge for pets, and his signature gentle charm. If you’re willing to offer ear scratches and belly rubs, he’ll happily become your new best friend.

This lovable big boy is happiest when he’s close to his people. Need a bathroom buddy? Bruce volunteers. Taking a shower? He’s on duty. Relaxing on the couch? Expect a furry head in your lap and plenty of requests for affection. His foster family describes him as incredibly loyal, loving, and eager to be near his humans whenever possible.

Bruce also has a playful side. He absolutely loves having another dog to romp and wrestle with and would thrive in a home with a friendly canine companion. That said, Bruce would also be perfectly happy as an only dog, soaking up all the attention, affection, and one-on-one time from his people.  He’s discovering the joy of toys and has developed a particular fondness for balls, tug-of-war, and the occasional sock that wasn’t put away quickly enough.

For such a big boy, Bruce has wonderful house manners. He walks nicely on a leash (though will pull if he sees a cat, squirrel or other dog he’d like to meet), settles well when left alone for short periods, and has done well around cats and smaller children. Because fast, unpredictable movements can still make him a little nervous, he would likely be happiest in a home with older, dog-savvy children who understand how to respectfully interact with a sensitive dog. [Note: we do not adopt to families with children under the age of 6].

Bruce is still building confidence in a few areas, for example, car rides remain a work in progress but every day he becomes a little braver. What he needs now is a patient family willing to continue helping him discover how wonderful life can be.

Bruce is neutered, fully vaccinated, tested negative for HW, is on preventative and most importantly – is ready to start the next chapter of his life. If you’d like to learn more, the first step is to complete an adoption application at the link below.

IMPORTANT: We do not deliver dogs to adopters – you must be able and willing to come meet the dog in their foster home. A home visit by one of our STAR volunteers is a required part of our adoption program and thus, adoptions outside of Texas are rare because of these two requirements. You must have a secure fence in place, and we are not fans of apartments for this breed, nor homes where the dogs will be home alone 8+ hours daily. All STAR dogs are adopted to be inside pets and family members only and all current or past pets in the home must have proof of being kept up to date on vaccinations and Heartworm prevention. The adoption fee is $300 and trust us, we spend that or much more on dogs to get them vetted – all STAR dogs will be neutered/spayed, up to date on vaccinations, microchipped, heartworm negative, and on monthly heartworm prevention. If you already have an application on file with us, you can contact us to let us know you are interested.

Bruce is a handsome 2-year-old black tri male and weighs 70lbs. He came to us from a breeding situation along with several other dogs. Understandably, he arrived scared and unsure of the world around him, but those days are behind him now. Bruce is beginning a new chapter filled with patience, kindness, and the chance to finally become a part of a family. As he settles into rescue life, we’re helping him learn what love, comfort, and safety truly feel like. We can’t wait to watch his personality shine and eventually find him the forever home he deserves. Stay tuned for updates on this sweet boy!
