Merlin, STAR #1920

Merlin has a new family including James, Alex, and Galaxy (r). This awesome Air Force family are active with running, camping, and time at the beach – and we know Merlin will enjoy all of those adventures with his new humans and Aussie sister. Thank you, Gordon for fostering Merlin, and nursing him through heartworm treatment. Thank you, Mack for Transport and Beth on the home visit.

Merlin is 4 year old, Blue Merle Male, approx 45lbs.  He came to STAR after living with a single guy who was moving out of the country. He was positive for heartworms, so those have been treated and he’s ready to find his forever home.  Here’s his bio from his foster dad:

Merlin is a very loving dog and VERY WELL behaved.  He loves to play (balls, kongs, kong animal toys) and loves to run and play catch with the frisbee.  Although, if two dogs are at play, he will stop.  So, if there’s more than one dog, it’s better to have Merlin not compete for play.

He’s extremely loyal and will stay by your side.  He loves to rest in front of the chair with a human foot for a pillow.  He communicates well when he needs to go outside.  He’s never had an accident.  Merlin fits in very well with my two dogs.  However, he opens up more and “smiles” a lot more if he’s the only companion.  So, balance of pack and alone time with Merlin would be optimal.

Merlin is crate fed but can share food as well.  When he first arrived, he had been free feeding as only child.  Now, he knows that he needs to eat when the food goes down.  Merlin will not get on the furniture, but he like to stand on his back legs lean in and give big hugs.  His eyes are mesmerizing as he gives hugs.  He has slept in a crate but now he sleeps at the foot of the bed on the floor.  He also loves to cuddle and so proud to be cuddled.

Merlin will bark at other dogs walking by.  However, that’s when he’s in a pack and he runs to support his pack.  Otherwise, he minds his own business.  He will come when called.  On the leash, he pulls and he pulls hard.  He does A LOT better on a harness rather than a collar but he will still pull. Leash training will be necessary to help with his manners on walks.

Merlin deserves the best of the best families with Aussie experience to be adopted into.  He’s a great very well-behaved loving dog.  He has not been tested with cats nor young children. He does have a high prey drive – so super careful introduction to cats would be necessary – or better yet, no cats. Given his desire to have all of the attention – we lean toward no kids.

Merlin’s foster home is in San Antonio.  If you’d like to learn more, please fill out an application.

Merlin is a 4-yr-old blue merle male – approximately 45lbs.  He was released to STAR because his owner was moving out of the country.  Since with STAR, he has been neutered was found to be heartworm positive.  So, we will treat him for heartworms and evaluate him.  He is being fostered in San Antonio and may be available for adoption in late August/early September.
