Oakley, STAR #2169

Oakley hit the jackpot when he caught the eye of the LaBelle family. He will be their 4th STAR dog and follows in the pawsteps of some very wonderful STAR Aussies (Chipper #114, Rooster #1667) and joins Rowan #2140.  Let the adventures begin, handsome Oakley!  Thank you, Jeff for fostering and to Patti, who is always taking care of matching Alumni to their next STAR dog.

💙 Meet Oakley! 🐾

Oakley is a handsome 5-year-old male Australian Shepherd with a wonderful combination of energy, intelligence, curiosity, and sweetness! He has a big personality, a playful spirit, and just a touch of stubbornness that makes him all the more entertaining. Whatever his people are doing, Oakley wants to be right there joining in on the fun!

Oakley is an active boy who absolutely loves his daily walks, running around the yard, and playing fetch. His leash manners are excellent! He stays focused on his walks and calmly passes other dogs, even those who may be barking at him. He also enjoys playing ball with his canine friends and a good game of tug-of-war indoors. This boy has plenty of energy and would happily play for as long as someone is willing!

He’s also proving to be a wonderful houseguest. Oakley is completely house-trained, sleeps quietly through the night in his crate, and settles in nicely when his foster family needs to leave the house. While he would love to cuddle up on the furniture with his people, he has been respectful of his foster family’s rules.

Oakley is working on his basic commands and already knows sit and down. He’s still perfecting his stay, but with patience, consistency, and a few tasty treats, he’s making great progress! He’s a smart boy who enjoys learning, especially when there’s a delicious reward involved.

Oakley would thrive in an active home where he can enjoy plenty of exercise, playtime, and companionship. He would especially love having another playful dog to help burn off some of that Aussie energy. A family with older children could also be a wonderful fit for this fun-loving boy.

Above all, Oakley wants to be included in his family’s everyday adventures. He’s affectionate, entertaining, and eager to find people who will appreciate his enthusiasm for life.

If you’re looking for a loyal, energetic companion who will keep you smiling and always be ready for the next adventure, Oakley just might be your perfect match!

Oakley is house trained, microchipped, fully vaccinated, neutered and current on heartworm prevention. He is currently fostered in a home in Houston. If you’d like to learn more about him or are interested in adopting, the first step is to complete an adoption application at the link below.
10 IMPORTANT THINGS: 1) We do not deliver dogs to adopters – you must be able and willing to come meet the dog in their foster home. 2) A home visit by one of our STAR volunteers is a required part of our adoption program and thus, adoptions outside of Texas are rare because of these two requirements. 3) You must have a secure fence in place, 4) we are not fans of apartments for this active breed 5) we do not adopt to families with children under the age of 6, 6) we will not adopt to homes where the dogs will be alone 8+ hours daily, 7) All STAR dogs are adopted to be inside pets and family members only, 😎 All current or past pets in the home must have proof of being kept up to date on vaccinations and Heartworm prevention. 9) Once you have met a dog and decide you’d like to adopt, you have 7-days to adopt the dog – we do not hold dogs, so be ready to adopt when you apply. 10) The adoption fee is $400 and trust us, we spend that or much more on dogs to get them vetted – all STAR dogs will be neutered/spayed (unless puppy), up to date on vaccinations, microchipped, heartworm negative, and on monthly heartworm prevention.
Oakley is a 5 year-old blue Merle male and weighs 50 pounds. His owners welcomed a tiny human into the household and decided that Oakley needed lots more attention and exercise. They made the difficult decision to release him to STAR. Oakley will be fostered and vetted in the Houston area and should be ready for adoption mid-October.
