Adopted Sassy, STAR # 1250

Sassy was picked up at MCAS. She has been with us for six months while we evaluated and looked for her perfect home. We now feel comfortable passing the torch to the Collier family. She will live in Austin with doggie sibling, Hershey. We are going to miss this growly, barky girl… Great way to start the New Year !!!

Available Dog Sassy, STAR # 1250
Bio from her foster home “This is Sassy and whoever named her could not have picked out a better one. She is very full of herself and knows her mind. Sassy is a 4-5-year-old black tri female that weighs around 45 lbs. found at MCAS.

She Loves, LOVES, LOVES her person or persons. I was told that Sassy has some Heeler characteristics. A dog that can be challenging.. and the way they bond to you. This is the best dog if you need a hangout buddy.

Her relationship with humans and other animals is based on trust. She could be an only dog or could live with a dog that does not react to her bossiness.. a younger oblivious dog possibly. We have one here and she loves to play with him.. he does not care how rough she plays. She and the older nine-year-old male have called a truce. I think he gave up and let her be boss.

There is a small dog in the home that she totally ignores. She most likely would not be good with children or cats (actually she has met some cats and was only mildly interested). Sassy is totally housebroken.. and crates easily with a treat. She will race you to the crate knowing she is getting a treat. Honestly, she will do ANYTHING for a treat. Even stop barking at the “boogy-man” that just came to the front door. Sassy does not greet strangers entering your home courteously She barks loudly. We are developing strategies for this. There are always treats. She can be bribed and once the stranger is inside and she knows they have treats, they are acceptable. Recently we have taken to just ignoring her and telling folks to just not look her way and walk right on in. I am sure she would not do well in an apartment because of her barking at strange noises. She pulls on a leash but does well on a halter, settles down quickly and really likes to go for walks. And loves to ride in the car. Loads right up and looks out the window. Actually, she is very well behaved out of the house with nothing to protect. Did I mention that Sassy can understand English?? Or it seems like it. she is one of the most responsive dogs I have ever met. food motivated and easy to train.”

So, in summary, This is not a dog for everyone but for a specific someone. If you are looking for a new best friend and house alarm with a big bark. fill out an application and contact STAR.
Her foster home is in Houston and we love her despite her quirkiness. Applicants have to be confident, smart and sassier than Sassy.

Sassy has really settled into her foster home. She still barks like crazy when people come in but we simply ask them to ignore her. just walk right by. that’s right, she is bluffing. Lots of people in the house for Thanksgiving and she was fine with everyone.

She’s still a smart little girl, very responsive to commands. Her newest trick is to spin for her dinner. She probably should be an only dog.. on a case by case basis because she plays rough and could want to be the boss. depending on the dog.

New Dog Sassy, STAR # 1250
40 lb. black tri female found at MCAS disguised as a BC mix. She’s sassy and knows “sit”. Totally vetted and chipped. Maybe close to five. Foster home will be in Houston.
