Nina, STAR #2144

Nina found her best buddy with Scott and Heidi! This Aussie savvy family has loved on a few rescue Aussies and is ready to give Nina a loving, patient home as she settles. Nina is one our dogs from the Louisiana hoarding situation and she lucked out to find such a great, home that will understand her needs and give her the time to build confidence in new surroundings. We can’t think Gil and Wendy enough for fostering Nina and all they do for STAR. Thank you, Beth for the home visit.

❤️ Meet Nina 🐾

Nina is a beautiful 4-year-old, 55-pound red merle Aussie who came to STAR from the heartbreaking Louisiana breeding situation. Her world before rescue appears to have been very small, so life in a home, and much of the world outside it, is still new to her.

When Nina first arrived, she was extremely timid and often chose the safety of her crate. But this sweet girl has come a long way! She quickly learned the household routine and is doing great with potty training. She now enjoys playing with her two male Aussie foster brothers and is showing more of her sweet, spunky personality every day.

Nina is especially affectionate with her people. She loves cuddles, pets and simply being close. She’s easygoing in the house, wonderfully quiet and does well with other dogs.

Outside the home, Nina is still gaining confidence. Walks are a work in progress, and unfamiliar or loud noises like lawn mowers can still make her nervous. But she’s already proven how much she can grow! With time, things that once sent her running for cover, like airplanes flying overhead, barely get a second glance now.

Nina is looking for a patient, loving family who will let her experience the world at her own pace and continue helping her build confidence. She may have had a small world before, but Nina is discovering just how wonderful life can be – one new adventure at a time.

She has not been tested around children nor among cats so slow introductions are key.

Nina is house trained, spayed, microchipped, fully vaccinated, and current on heartworm prevention. She is currently fostered in a home in Houston. If you’d like to learn more about her or are interested in adopting, the first step is to complete an adoption application at the link below.
10 IMPORTANT THINGS: 1) We do not deliver dogs to adopters – you must be able and willing to come meet the dog in their foster home. 2) A home visit by one of our STAR volunteers is a required part of our adoption program and thus, adoptions outside of Texas are rare because of these two requirements. 3) You must have a secure fence in place, 4) we are not fans of apartments for this active breed 5) we do not adopt to families with children under the age of 6, 6) we will not adopt to homes where the dogs will be alone 8+ hours daily, 7) All STAR dogs are adopted to be inside pets and family members only, 8 ) All current or past pets in the home must have proof of being kept up to date on vaccinations and Heartworm prevention. 9) Once you have met a dog and decide you’d like to adopt, you have 7-days to adopt the dog – we do not hold dogs, so be ready to adopt when you apply. 10) The adoption fee is $400 and trust us, we spend that or much more on dogs to get them vetted – all STAR dogs will be neutered/spayed, up to date on vaccinations, microchipped, heartworm negative, and on monthly heartworm prevention.

Another beautiful face from our Louisiana Baker’s Dozen Plus 1 rescue group is ready to be introduced. Please give a warm STAR welcome to Nina! Nina is a 4-year-old red merle female weighing 50 pounds. She came to us from the heartbreaking cruelty/breeding situation in Louisiana, where she endured a life that no dog should ever experience. Nina is beginning a completely different chapter. She has a safe place to land, a foster family to care for her, and the opportunity to finally experience the love and kindness she has always deserved. Nina is being fostered in the Houston area.  She has a couple of fur-brothers that are showing her the ropes and letting her get lots of attention.  Nina is fully vetted and spayed. For now, we’re just thankful that Nina is safe. ❤️ We will post her as available when we feel she is ready to make that next step. Welcome to STAR, Nina. We’re so glad you’re here.
