Clara Belle, STAR #2011

Clara Belle will be the 2nd STAR dog for alum and volunteer family – the Sassers. They adopted Addy, STAR #910 class ‘2012 who passed recently, and were ready to love on another. She’ll get to human buddies to show her the ropes around the home and is on to a wonderful life. Thank you, Elise for a wonderful foster job with this very good girl.

Clara – The sweet pea, sunshine Aussie!  Here’s her bio from her foster mom:

Clara is a Red Merle Australian Shepherd, born November 8, 2021, and she is just over 3 years old. She currently weighs about 59 pounds and is on a small weight loss journey. You would hardly notice, but we are helping her drop a few pounds and build up her stamina. With her young age and energy, she will be in great shape in no time.

From the moment she arrived, Clara has been nothing but a sweetheart. She trusts people quickly and melts when she meets you. She doesn’t jump but spins in happy circles or flops on her back asking for belly rubs.

She is wonderful with kids, having grown up with two young boys. She is fine with cats and loves other dogs. Clara is playful but respectful and listens when another dog tells her they are done playing.

Clara has so many charming quirks. She rarely barks and instead makes little “gruff” sounds like she is talking to you. She loves swimming and cooling off in the water. A baby pool in the yard would absolutely make her day. She demolishes most stuffed animals except for her beloved hedgehog, which she protects like a treasure. She is smart and funny and even learned how to dive off the “high dive” into the pool onto a mat.

She already knows sit and come, sleeps behind a baby gate at night without a fuss, and is learning to walk nicely on a leash. I have started running with her and after the first few excited minutes she keeps pace beautifully. We have kenneled her a few times when traveling with her and she will go in just fine and lay quietly.

Clara is not a guard dog. She greets strangers, neighbors, and even the mailman with a wagging tail. When we take her out, she makes friends everywhere and always comes back for a cuddle.

Clara is such a family girl! Each morning after outside time, she runs to each room to great everyone in the house. She is always so excited to see everyone!

The only thing she cannot live with is free range chickens. She was surrendered by her previous family because she could not resist their flock. (Can’t blame her!)

Clara is looking for a home that will include her in everyday life. She will happily join you on walks, patio dinners, adventures, and movie nights. She is happy doing just about anything as long as she is with you.

If you are looking for a dog with a heart of gold who will be your shadow and best friend, Clara is your girl.

To apply, please go to the “Adopt” page on our website, read about the adoption program and then complete and application.  Adopters will be required to have a phone interview and home visit before a meet/greet can take place.

Clara Belle is a red merle female, around 3 years old and 60lbs. She could not resist the chickens and therefore, needs a new home. She will be vetted and evaluated in a foster home in Austin. She may be available late July.
