Summit, STAR #2135
From Alaska to STAR to Home! Summit was left behind when his owners moved and after making his way to Texas, he’s now a loved member of the Radford family. This their first Aussie and they are getting one of the best new family members! Walks, backyard play and maybe trip to the local dog park are in his future, as well as two young humans to keep him entertained. Thank you, Nancy for another wonderful foster job and to Christine for the home visit.
💙 Some dogs have a story that tugs at your heart, and Summit is one of them.
This handsome blue merle Australian Shepherd made an incredible journey all the way from Alaska to become a STAR dog after being abandoned and left chained to a doghouse. Thankfully, those days are behind him, and Summit has embraced his new life with remarkable resilience. Now he’s looking for the forever family that will give him the love he’s always deserved.
Summit is a 5-year-old blue merle male weighing approximately 55 pounds. He is currently being fostered in the Katy area, where he has adjusted beautifully—not only to life in a home but also to the Texas heat!
If you’re looking for a loyal companion, Summit is your guy. He is incredibly affectionate and happiest when he’s right by your side. Whether you’re relaxing on the couch, watching TV, or heading to bed, Summit believes the best place in the house is wherever you are. If invited onto the furniture, he’ll happily snuggle up as close as possible.
He’s also an exceptionally well-mannered houseguest. Summit gets along wonderfully with his Aussie foster siblings, crates easily with the help of a treat, settles quickly, and is nearly perfect with his house manners. His foster family describes him as an easy dog to live with.
Like many Aussies, Summit enjoys staying aware of everything happening around him—especially if it involves squirrels! He takes his backyard squirrel patrol very seriously and considers it his personal mission to keep the trees squirrel-free.
Summit is still polishing a few skills. He can be enthusiastic on leash and sometimes thinks he should be the one deciding where the walk is headed. With consistency and continued training, he’s already well on his way to becoming an even better walking companion.
After spending much of his life outdoors, Summit’s beautiful coat is growing back nicely, and his paw pads are finally becoming soft again. He also has a fractured canine tooth that has been thoroughly evaluated by a veterinarian. The pulp is not exposed, and no extraction is needed.
Summit is neutered, fully vaccinated, microchipped, heartworm negative, and current on heartworm prevention.
After everything he’s been through, Summit hasn’t lost his trust in people or his desire to love. He’s simply looking for a family who will return that love and make sure he never has to wonder where he belongs again. If you’re searching for a devoted, affectionate companion with a gentle heart and plenty of love to give, Summit may just be the perfect addition to your family.
He is crate trained, house trained, neutered, microchipped, fully vaccinated, and current on monthly heartworm prevention. He is currently being fostered in Katy and is ready to find the loving forever home he deserves. If you’d like to learn more about Summit or are interested in adopting him, the first step is to complete an adoption application at the link below.

IMPORTANT: We do not deliver dogs to adopters – you must be able and willing to come meet the dog in their foster home. A home visit by one of our STAR volunteers is a required part of our adoption program and thus, adoptions outside of Texas are rare because of these two requirements. You must have a secure fence in place, and we are not fans of apartments for this breed, nor homes where the dogs will be home alone 8+ hours daily. All STAR dogs are adopted to be inside pets and family members only and all current or past pets in the home must have proof of being kept up to date on vaccinations and Heartworm prevention. The adoption fee is $400 and trust us, we spend that or much more on dogs to get them vetted – all STAR dogs will be neutered/spayed, up to date on vaccinations, microchipped, heartworm negative, and on monthly heartworm prevention. If you already have an application on file with us, you can contact us to let us know you are interested.
INTRO:ummit is fresh off a plane from Alaska! He is a 5 yr-old blue merle male and estimated to weigh about 55 pounds. Sadly, he was abandoned by his owners and left chained to a doghouse. Summit is being fostered in the Katy area. He will get the works with STAR – a neuter, vaccinations, microchip and a much-needed bath. So far, we hear that he’s a super sweet and loving boy. He should be ready for adoption towards the end of July. Welcome to Texas, Summit! A big thanks to Lee Wassen for taking such good care of this boy in Alaska and on the flight to STAR.
