Zoom, STAR # 1732

Zoom was adopted by the Ragsdale family, and we are so happy for him!  His new home is a savvy dog rescue home that has taken in both greyhounds and Aussies over the years.  Zoom came to us from Austin Animal Shelter and had a couple false starts in new homes where he had issues with cats, small kids, and chaos.  We are so grateful for our STAR fosters Leslie and Trevor who worked tirelessly with Zoom to help him be successful and earn good canine citizenship.  We look forward seeing stories of how Zoom progresses in his new wonderful home with this lovely family and with Harley, his new greyhound brother.

Zoom is approximately 1 year old and on the smaller side at about 28lbs.  Before you read Zoom’s bio and fall in love with him, we want to be upfront about his needs. Zoom is scared of tiny humans not having the best introduction to kids early on. His adoptive home needs to have no children under the age of 16. Zoom, aka Zoomie, is your typical “everyone who meets him falls in love with him immediately” Aussie. He has LOTs of energy but will slow down for cuddles.  He is a gentle guy and wants belly rubs and behind-the-ear scratches all day. He LOVES toys, especially tennis balls and squeaky toys, but what is loves more than toys is playing in the pool. Water is his favorite thing of all time. Zoom is crated when his foster family isn’t home, and he sleeps in his crate all night. His foster family has cats, and he loves to chase them, so his adoptive home needs to be cat free. Zoom is very loyal and wants to be around his people. He’d do best with people that are home more often than not. Zoom is also a very vocal dog. He barks when he’s happy, hungry, excited, playing, etc. Zoom is a typical Velcro dog, following his foster mom everywhere she goes in the house (literally everywhere)!

More…  Zoom was picked up at Austin Animal Center. He has had two adoption fails where there were cats and/or kids and/or chaos and it didn’t work out so well.  STAR reached out to a behavior specialist to have Zoom evaluated and confirmed he’s a good boy with great potential.  He will need an Aussie savvy owner and a home with no young children and no cats.  He’s a lot of puppy and a bit of a spaz.  He loves to meet new people, is curious, loves water, but can also be fearful in new situations and loud noises.  He’s a wonderful, handsome, and loving dog.

Zoom’s assessment write-up by the behavior specialist will be provided to prospective adopters with tips on how to ensure Zoom’s success.

  • Boundaries and structure needed.
  • Ready for a project – and to provide patient, loving and positive reinforcement training.
  • Household with an easy-going lifestyle; older kids only.
  • No Cats – High Prey Drive – Excitable by cats.
  • Others dogs welcome – He is a social learner. Needs role model dogs.
  • Older – well socialized “momma dog” may help with those boundaries.
