Mackie, STAR #1871

ADOPTED

Mackie, STAR #1871

Mackie caught the eye of Linda and Bill and they loved that she’s so smart and full of spirit.  This dog savvy family have lot of exercise and enrichment plans for this good girl and are so excited to bring her into their home.  Thank you, Gordon for fostering this girl and loving on her until we found her a great home.

This beautiful blue merle girl is Mackie. She’s 4 years old, weighs around 52lbs and came to STAR as an owner release as she much for this older family.  Since she’s been with STAR, she’s been spayed and fully vetted. Here’s the bio from her foster dad:
“Mackie is one of the top 1% intelligent dogs I’ve ever fostered! She can be shown something a couple of times and she knows what’s expected. She can also figure out resolutions on her own. She loves her crate and will go in there to relax and also when it’s time she goes to her crate to be fed.
We’ve been working on weight loss, so she’s fed a cup of kibble in the morning and a cup in the evening. She is full of energy and wrestles around with another Aussie and miniature Aussie all day long. She’s playful at 100% and then when she’s the chance to be loving, she loves and cuddles 100%.
Mackie loves to go inside and outside on her own accord. She will tell you when she wants to go out.
She LOVES to play with other dogs and needs a sturdy male playmate. She can also just hang out and she will find a toy, toss it, chase it, toss it again, chase, lay down, chew on it, and just be entertained. She can be a bossy female and will dictate the play level.
She’s not destructive at all and has good manners. She is protective of her people, but once she’s comfortable, she’ll be “all wiggles.” Mackie loves cuddling…And if she wants to snuggle, she will be there in your arms and head on your shoulder, sniffing your ear to let you know she loves being with you.
Work in progress: She does walk on a lead but is not the best but can easily be taught with practice. Mackie can be mouthy when she gets excited…it seems almost as if she’s trying to hold your hand. We are working on curbing that behavior. Mackey will counter surf and has even been known to steal a sandwich or two or three in a home with two teenage boys!
Mackie would do best in a home with a family or individual that will be patient with her need to control the situation (standard Aussie trait!). We will not adopt her to a family with children under the age of 16. She would do best with a sturdy male playmate or a plan to keep her energy level met with exercise and enrichment. No tested around cats – but would probably give chase.
If you are interested in learning more about Mackie, you must first complete the adoption application on our website under “Adopt” – scroll to the bottom. We’ll review and give you a call.  Her foster home is in San Antonio.
