Sloane, STAR #1895

Sloane, STAR #1895

Sweet Sloane has joined the Kepner family, where he joins Coco (9yr old Shih Tzu). Lots of fun adventures await with walks, hikes, boating, and backyard playtime. Sloane went from being a stray to STAR to his forever family – win/win! Thank you, Christina for fostering and to Janet/Mike for transport.

Sloane is a very cute and silly goofy boy. He’s almost a year old and weighs around 35lbs.

He loves his foster family and any new human friends that he meets. He spends his day wrestling with his foster brother and giving unlimited kisses to his foster sister. He is very good about settling during the day and just taking a little nap under the table when he’s tired.

He is a perfect angel on walks and is not strong enough to pull. Once he reaches the end of the leash and feels a slight tug and a redirection command, he immediately comes running back next to you. He loves to sniff and the feeling of walking in tall grass. He has not shown much interest in meeting other dogs on walks but is always curious and wants to meet other humans he sees.

Sloane is great with the crate and now knows the “crate” command. After watching his foster siblings, he associated going in the crate with a treat and will happily run into his crate and wait for his treat. He does occasionally whine if he’s in the crate for too long and hears people moving about outside his crate. He should definitely continue to be crated on a schedule to help with his separation anxiety and so he’s not mischievous while you’re not home.

Sloane shares treats and toys with his foster siblings but is definitely an opportunist always hopping in when he sees a toy he wants that is unattended. He loves trying new fruits and vegetables and has liked everything we’ve given him!

Sloane is very eager to please and a fast learner! He already knows a few commands like “outside”, “crate”, “potty”, “sit”, “down”, “come here”, “leave it”, and “wait”. He is willing to do anything to make his humans happy but is very high energy and excitable, he could possibly benefit from agility or a sport but is also perfectly content with a long walk and a lick mat/puzzle/kong in the afternoons.

He has good recall inside the house and will come when called but has not been off leash outdoors. He has not been exposed to cats or kids yet. He is very good on car rides and asks to open the window so he can put his head outside.

Sloane is just a silly goofy boy that’s wants a family to give him all the attention. He is still very much a puppy with the energy to match and needs to be monitored to not get into any trouble. He is still learning to be an inside dog, so he still needs to master the potty training. He would benefit from a family that is well versed in high energy dogs and will continue to maintain structure and routine until he’s a bit older and can self-regulate.

To learn more – you must first complete an adoption application (STAR website – see “adopt”).  His foster home is in Austin.
