ADOPTED

Oscar, STAR #2057

Oscar has found a great home with the Maya and Kevin. Maya had an Aussie when growing up and is excited to have another. They understand and are ready to help Oscar’s sensitivity to loud sounds and we know he’ll have a great life with walks, hikes and play time in the yard. Thank you, Brian and family for fostering.

Oscar is a 5-year-old, 50lb neutered male Red Tri Australian Shepherd with a big heart and an even bigger love for his people. His previous owners recently moved to an Air Force base, and he was terrified of the booming sounds of the planes taking off and landing nearby. He’s been vetted and evaluated in a foster home, and we are looking to find him a perfect home.  More on Oscar:

He’s a sweet, affectionate shadow who wants to be wherever you are and will absolutely try to coordinate doorways, so he never gets left behind. He smiles at you with his teeth- adorable!

Oscar loves interactive play like tug-of-war and frisbee (fair warning: he thinks being chased is the game and isn’t big on giving the frisbee back). He walks beautifully on a leash and does great with other dogs, kids, and even chickens. He has not been tested around cats – but likely will be ok with slow introductions.

He can be barky around strangers at first and has anxiety with loud noises like fireworks and airplanes, so he’ll do best with a patient, understanding home that can help him feel safe and secure. Once he trusts you, Oscar is all love—loyal, cuddly, and happiest just being close to his humans.

He can jump a low fence, so you must have a secure, tall fence and he’s not going to be a dog that will enjoy loud, outdoor spaces – please keep that in mind.

If you’re looking for a devoted companion who wants to be part of everything you do, Oscar might be your perfect match.

To learn more – you must first complete an adoption application (website – under “adopt”). We’ll review and give you a call.  Oscar’s foster home is in Austin.

Introduction to the Adoption Process – South Texas Aussie Rescue

NOTE:  We do not deliver dogs or fulfill transport to adopters. Home visits at your home by one of our STAR volunteers are a required part of our adoption program, and you must be able and willing to come meet the dog in their foster home. Adoptions outside of Texas are rare because of these requirements. Adoption to an apartment lifestyle is not the best for this breed.

Oscar is a handsome red tri male, around 5 years of age and 50lbs. His family recently moved to an Air Force base, and he was terrified of the booming sounds of the planes taking off and landing nearby.  So, the miliary life is not for him!  So far, in his foster home – he’s a great dog. Very, very velcro. Gets along with other dogs. Smiles with his teeth – cute, but can be scary to some. Good with older kids. He’ll be assessed in his foster home in Austin and may be available first of the year in January 2026.
