Obi Wan, STAR #1983
Chris and Obi Wan, STAR #1983 are off to great adventures! This is Chris’ first Aussie, he did a lot of reading about the breed and when he saw Obi, it was love at first sight (plus, he’s a Star Wars Fan!). They will live in Austin but travel over to Aggieland often (Gig’Em!) as Chris has family there involved in the sports scene. Thank you, Bill for fostering and David for the home visit.
Obi Wan is a smart, handsome, blue merle male, almost 2 1/2 years old and 50 lbs. From his foster home:
Obi blended in easily and quickly with our household! He loves his people, wants to be around them, and doesn’t have a preference for men or women. He’ll choose someone to bond closest with. His short tail stub seems to be constantly wiggling for this happy boy, who likes to give kisses too.
Obi has an abundance of energy, and lives for any number of sessions each day chasing his Chuckit ball, which he returns and drops. He prefers to have someone outside with him, even if they aren’t throwing his Chuckit ball (like before bedtime). He’s a fairly good walker, although he can pull lightly, unless he finds something that urgently needs smelling. On walks, he can be reactive to some dogs, and sometimes deer, although he can usually be guided away from them without too much difficulty. Obi Wan is a ladies man, in that he easily gets along with our two as well as other female dogs he’s met. On the other hand, Obi can be reactive to male dogs.
Obi crates easily with a treat and stays off the furniture. Inside, he hasn’t shown much interest in the toy basket, although he’ll chase a ball or squeaky toy if you throw it and does likes chewing on a Nylabone. He can be quiet and chill inside, saving his energy for his next time outdoors. He knows his name, as well as a few basic commands like sit, inside, and drop it. He’ll sit for a treat and knows that the outside Chuckit ball stays outside.
Obi Wan is house trained, up to date on shots and heart worm prevention, is on flea and tick preventative, is neutered, and microchipped. Obi will do best in a home with a fenced yard where he can chase and retrieve his Chuckit ball and might be an agility candidate. He’s just started playing with our Aussie-mix, and could be fine as an only dog, too. However, and this is important, he thrives on being close to and interacting with his people and needs daily exercise and/or play to use his abundant energy. Obi Wan has not been tested around cats. Careful consideration should be given to a home with smaller children, as with his exuberance he could inadvertently knock one over.
If you are interested in learning more about Obi Wan and potentially adopt, the first step is to complete our adoption application. His foster home is in Georgetown.
