Adopted Emma, STAR # 1269
Emma came to STAR from Louisiana. Her family in financial difficulties. She is super sweet and shy. Emma has been adopted by the Burke family of Canyon Lake. she will have a fun loving brother, Rowdy and should fit right in.
Thanks to Desiree for sending us Emma to Lisa for doing the home visit, to Lucinda for her temporary foster care and finally to Jane and Bill who loved her..
Available Dog Emma, STAR # 1269
She wiggles, she squiggles and she squeaks! She is a 7-8 mo. old puppy with light green eyes and weighs about 32 lbs. Emma has a shorter, dark red coat with nice white features to offset her light green eyes. She is really a looker! Emma is fully crate trained, seems to be house trained and only wants to be with her people. Emma, once she gets past that BURST of puppy energy, settles nicely with her bone or hoof in the house and comes periodically for attention. She does have to be SUPERVISED in the house as she is a puppy and sometimes things that should not be chewed, can become her chew toy. She will eventually grow out of this at about age 2 or so, but do be prepared to supervise a puppy if she becomes yours! Emma will retrieve a ball several times and this activity, with training, could be encouraged as a way to help exercise and interact with her. She also knows the command sit, but she does not sit long! Emma has had a few clicker training sessions, so she is familiar with the clicker and is highly food motivated. Emma is not a good placement for homes who do not like to crate their dog. This would allow destructive behavior when not supervised and therefore, probably not a successful placement in the end. It is unknown if Emma is good with children or cats, as her foster home has neither. Cats tend to scare easily and run, and perhaps this, with her strong urge to play chase, may not be a great situation for an adoption. Emma could be good with children once they were properly introduced.
If you are looking for a youngster and are prepared to put in the time over the next year and a half in finishing the training required of a young female dog, then Emma is your girl! Update From new foster home. Emma is an adorable youngster …full of energy. She plays and wrestles with Lila, her foster sister until Lila says stop. She does need supervision as she chews on anything available. Emma loves ice and does not miss a chance for an ice cube when she hears the ice maker sounding. She smart and learns quickly. She barks at strangers at the door. She is shy with strangers in the house. She even growled at me when I initially picked her up but once we got home she has been a pleasure. Emma is totally housebroken except for a few times that she has submissive peed when scared. She crates easily with a treat after entering. She chases squirrels but doesn’t seem to notice cats on walks. She is looking for her forever home and would be a great companion.
Her foster home is in Northwest Houston. Please fill out an application on our website if you would like to meet Emma.
