Mariah, STAR #2105

Sweet and sassy Mariah, STAR #2105 landed with our rescue when one of her owners passed and then was spending too much time at doggy day care and alone. Fast forward after landing in a great foster home who tended to her needs and helped her come out of her shell, she’s landed with the Saul family. They lost their Aussie, Bentley not long ago and were missing having a dog in their lives. Thankfully, they found STAR and we matched them with Mariah. We are grateful to Lisa Butler for yet another great foster job and letting this little sweetheart go! And thank you Ellen for the home visit.

Mariah is a 3-year-old, Black Tri Female who weighs around 40lbs. She came to STAR after her owner passed and the family was unable to keep her. She’s been loved on in her foster home for a few weeks and is ready to find her forever home.

About this Girl – From Mariah’s Foster Mom:

Mariah continues to follow the routine at our house. She is just precious!  Darling!  Adorable!  She is excellent on a leash and loves to go for her walks and play ball, and knows all the basic commands…sit, shake, lay.  She crates up and is quiet all night. She has a serious wiggle butt and loves “zooming around the backyard at high speeds”, laughing all the way.

She gets along great with the other dogs in the home. She’s not tested with cats nor young children – but would likely do fine with slow introductions.

She can be skittish around men and a little bit “woofy” at first, but is warming up to her foster more each day and we encourage her bravery and progress with treats and praise. An all-human-girl household would be great for her but one with a man is not off the table – just will need patience and understanding – and treats as she gets comfortable.

From the previous owner’s family, we’re told that as an older puppy, she had two seizure incidents, so the vet put her on a low dose med and had never seen a re-occurrence since. She may be able to be weaned off of it, but we have not attempted this since so much has changed in her life from her previous owner passing away, a bit of juggling with family and then to STAR. We’d recommend a convo with a vet – but her meds are not a big deal as it’s a small pill in her food each am.

Mariah’s foster home is in the New Braunfels area. Since with STAR, she’s been fully vaccinated, is HW-, on heartworm preventative, and been spayed. Please complete an application to be considered as an adopter, learn more about and meet her.

IMPORTANT: We do not deliver dogs to adopters – you must meet the dog in their foster home. A home visit by one of our STAR volunteers is a required part of our adoption program. Because of these requirements, adoptions outside of Texas are rare. You must have a secure fence in place, and we are not fans of apartments for this breed, nor homes where the dogs will be home alone 8+ hours daily. All STAR dogs are adopted to be inside pets with family members only, and all current or past pets in the home must have proof of being kept up to date on vaccinations and Heartworm prevention. The adoption fee is $300 and trust us, we spend that or much more on dogs to get them vetted – all STAR dogs will be neutered/spayed, up to date on vaccinations, microchipped, heartworm negative, and on monthly heartworm prevention. If you already have an application on file with us, you can contact us to let us know you are interested.

Mariah is a beautiful 3 year old black tri female and weighs 50 pounds.  Sadly, one of her owners passed away and Mariah was spending a lot of time alone and in doggie daycare.  She will be evaluated and vetted in her foster home in New Braunfels and should be ready for adoption in late May.  So far, she is settling in nicely and getting lots of attention.
