Maggie, STAR #1951

Maggie (l) is now a much-loved part of the Culberson crew! She joins Henry, STAR #1701 (right) and Stella (center) and is already loving being part of the family. We are so happy that this sweet senior girl landed in the lap of luxury after being left in the shelter.  This is what we call a win/win!  Thank you, Julie for fostering and to the transport crew who got her to STAR.

This sweet senior lady was left at a shelter outside Austin, at no fault of her own. She’s a Black Tri Female, estimated to be around 9-10 years old and is a fluffy 50lbs. From her foster mom:

Maggie is simply an easy going and loving girl. Despite her older age, she’s got a lot of pep in her step and is always excited to meet new people and other dogs. She does not have a mean bone in her fluffy body and tries to initiate play with my Aussie boys, who are too old/lazy to play back, so I hope we can find her a home with a good playmate. I’ve not seen her in a full out run, but she does jump around like a bunny mostly.

Her coat is silky and she’s a fan of grooming, though not super thrilled with anyone messing with her “chonky” front paws.  She enjoys bath time pending it’s full of scrubbing and kisses.  She does love to return kisses.

She eats well and loves, and I mean loves treats.  She’s fine in a crate but has been left out for several hours and basically, she just sleeps and hangs out waiting for her human to get home. She does not chew and really, honestly – has no bad habits.  She’s great on walks but loves to sniff so don’t be expecting to take a brisk walk as she enjoys the experience and smells.

She’s not a constant barker but will let the UPS guy know she’s on the other side of the door and when she spies a dog a walking on her sidewalk through the window – she gets pretty vocal.

She has a great appetite but does prefer any meds wrapped in cheese.  Maggie does have some arthritis in her front legs – and thus needs to be on a joint supplement and meds. Her teeth are a little ground down likely from chewing over time, but no dental issues.

She has not been exposed to a cat, but slow introductions would be recommended.  She’s not been around young kids, but her demeanor suggests she’d be a fan as long as they are gentle and respect her space.

She gets a clean bill of health from the vet, is chipped, spayed and negative for heartworms.

If you’d like to learn more about Maggie, please fill out an application and we’ll get in contact with you.  Maggie’s foster home is in N. Dallas.

STAR will get her all checked out and on some arthritis meds for her limping. She will be evaluated in her foster home in North Texas and may be available late in mid-December.
