Maggie “Belle” Emerson, STAR #1869

Maggie Belle came to STAR in dire straits.  She was found alone in a back yard – starving, skin infection with blisters, missing hair, skin/bones, and extremely weak. Fast forward several months:  Maggie Belle is a very different dog because of the dedication to her recovery and loving care at her foster home. Good food, medicated baths, love, and proper vet care turned this girl’s life around.  So, it may not be surprising that during her stay at the foster home, the family fell in love and decided she’s “home”.  Congrats to our Alumni family – the Fullers and thank you for fostering and adopting again from STAR.

Maggie Belle is one of those stories that melts your heart and reminds the volunteers at STAR why we do what we do.  At first look, we wondered if she could be healed, but she put her head in her foster mom’s lap and showed she was a fighter who was ready to thrive.

This sweet puppy (estimated to be around 1 year old) is loving life for the first time. She was found alone and starving in a back yard, with several medical issues and loss of hair.  Fast forward – she’s been fully vetted, treated for a skin issue, fed high-quality food, spayed, and showered with love.  Hair is coming back, has no exposed skin, has put on 13lbs (now weighs 50lbs) and her energy level is appropriate for her age!

Maggie has learned to really love showers and will get in with you if let her! She responds to any attention and learns quickly. She wants to learn and please you so desperately.

Maggie is crate trained, doing good on potty training and so sweet.

Maggie loves the other dogs in the home, loves to run and play with them until she passes out.

Maggie’s excitement for the world is growing every day. She wants nothing more than to be loved on or played with. But she really has no idea how to play and is learning.

She has found her voice, and it is big and loud! She scares herself when she barks, and it is so funny.

She is really a blank canvas and is a sponge. She is not a real driven dog and can be easily distracted and redirected, so she is easily trained.

Despite being starved, she has shown no food aggression and takes treats gently.

Maggie is a work in progress, even if she isn’t very photogenic right now.  She’s going to make a family very lucky to have such a loving dog become part of their pack.
