Macy, STAR # 1715

ADOPTED

Macy, STAR # 1715

Sweet red headed Macy has been adopted by the Walker family.. She will be loved and adored by all… After a few lessons, she will be perfect 🙂   Thanks to  Terry for picking her up and overnighting.. and thanks to Deb and Jim for evaluating and fostering Macy..
From Macy’s foster mom..
“Macy has been with me for one month and this is what an adopter wants/needs to know.

She has a gentle and loving temperament.  She is so sweet it is unbelievable and she was starved by someone.  She patiently allowed that to happen to her?  So, her new owner cannot be someone who will forget that…
It took 24 hours of some doggy fights for Tilly and Macy to understand each other.  I am dog savvy and I could see the arguments were more noise and gnashing of teeth than trying to do harm.   If the adoptive owner has a dog, then they need to be dog savvy, and their dog needs to have a good temperament.  She is vocal when playing so the other dog cant be too submissive. They also run and wrestle and that is nice to see they are happy.  She can be an only dog but she needs to have something that is a spark in her life.  Walks or some kind of activity or a job to do…
Most likely she would not do well in a random dog park..

Her one big issue is Food.  She came to us starved and very very skinny.  She will probably not out grow that memory of not having food to eat..  So feeding time with another dog will have to be supervised.  She will not bite her owner.  I have taken many things out of her mouth.  So no fear for her human.  She needs someone who will understand that she was starved and understand some of those behaviors will not change.  She will counter surf if she smells food on the counter, but she doesn’t do it just because she can.  She will surf trash cans so keep them inaccessible.
Now, on the plus side of this issue, she is very food motivated, so training will be easy.  She came to us at 30 lbs.  When last at the vet she was 44 lbs.  She is fit and thin now.

At the vet she greeted everyone with kisses and wanted to greet all the dogs too.  She has no stranger danger.  She greeted the masked male (6ft 2in and 200 lbs) by jumping up and licking his mask.  She did the same with the female vet.  She wanted to kiss the girl checking us out at the front desk.

She is totally house trained and quiet in a crate.  She has not attempted to chew anything other than toys.

She will want to sleep at the end of your bed if allowed.

Sweetheart and happy.  Untested on Cats and maybe too large a playmate for a small dog. “
Macy is a red tri female.. 44 lbs. and 2-3 years old.  She is spayed, vaccinated and microchipped.. She has some behavior possibly acquired
from her time as a stray.. Initially, she can be defensive and bossy with other dogs..
Once you get past that she is a great playmate .. Also at one time, she was slowly starving and therefore
does not take the food supply lightly.. For the most part, she is a very sweet and loving companion..
If you are interested in learning more about Macy, please go to our website, read about Adoption and
submit an application.. Her foster home is in Houston.
