JoJo, STAR #1940

Oh, JoJo! She was a hard one for this foster family to let go as she’s a 100% sweetheart who came to us from a puppy mill operation with heartworms and other issues. Fast forward after lots of TLC and treatment – she was ready to be adopted, and we found the perfect home. JoJo joins the Ortiz family as an only dog (for now!) and will get daily walks, play ball and visit are lakes – they plan to take her with them everywhere they go. Welcome to STAR – and thank you to Terry and Zee for fostering and Ellen on the home visit.
JoJo’s life has taken a 180 degree turn from her early years where she was part of a puppy mill operation, in which STAR took possession of two of the eight dogs rescued. Since then, she has experienced & led the kind of life she deserved and her whole demeanor has changed into a sweet, loving dog. She is around 3 years old and 38lbs.
From her foster dad:
“She travels great, as we took her on an extended trip about a week after we rescued her. She was fine with the multiple new people she encountered and was on her best behavior (no accidents in the house, etc., and everyone loved her. She is a real snuggle bunny, despite being a wiggle worm, unless she is getting a belly rub which she loves.
She is crate trained, where she spends her nights w/o problems, but would much rather be out with the rest of her pack, as she has got to do on occasions. JoJo walks on the leash with very little pulling & more often get tangled with her step-brother than anything.
Over time she has become a typical Aussie watchdog protecting us from the mail person & people or noises outside. She is a very happy camper, as evident by her vibrating tail & her wanting attention from us. She is not a high energy dog & settles down at your feet or with her chew toys and is not an instant destroyer of them. She likes nyla bones & will steal them back from our Dakota when she has a chance. She loves ice cubes as a treat & is trained to the sound of the dispenser.
She has never chewed on any shoes, furniture etc. while she’s been here. Since she came to us HW+, so we have not engaged in any type of fetch with the ball etc., but I believe she would if given the opportunity. She may at times be a bit unsure of meeting new people including small children, but a quick sniff is generally all it takes for her to be okay, other times she takes to people right away. She is a bit more selective when it comes to other dogs, as sometimes she barks at them & other times is fine. She might even tolerate a cat in her life as she showed no interest in the few that we’ve come across nor squirrels. She is a very mellow dog just waiting for her forever home.”
If you’d like to learn more about this lovely girl – please fill out an adoption application and we’ll get in touch. She’s being fostered in Houston.
