Elway, STAR # 1567
Elway has found his “furever home” with John and Jordan in Austin… He will have an Aussie sister.. We thank them for their patience while waiting for the right dog.. So many thanks to Terrie with Pilots N Paws for bringing Elway to Houston from Baton Rouge.. and thanks again to foster home Gavin and Nicole for another great job.
My name is Elway! I am a ~60 lbs. 4 year old black and white male Aussie! STAR found me in Louisiana and brought me to my foster family in Houston on a private airplane! I had so much fun flying with the pilot and co-pilot!
My foster mom always tells me that I am a very sweet boy and a velcro dog. I like my dog foster siblings but I LOVE people. I love to follow my foster parents everywhere they go and want to be close to them all the time! Sleeping at their feet, resting my head on their laps when they sit down, and trying to lick their faces are some of my favorite things. My foster parents tell me that I look at people like they are my whole world!
I get along with all my foster siblings including my dog foster brother and sister and cat foster brother. Sometimes the cat sneaks up on me and startles me so I chase him away. My foster parents tell me that I shouldn’t do that, I am learning but sometimes it is hard to remember! My foster parents also tell me that I should play with my dog foster siblings but I don’t really understand how to play with them. When my foster brother tries to join in, I let him have the toy and go find another one. I would much rather run around the house by myself with the rope toy or kong. I run around and swing the rope toy or drop the kong and chase it down the hallway, it is SO much fun! My foster parents are amazed with how much I entertain myself but I do like to play fetch with them!
I am a smart boy and already knew a number of basic commands when I arrived at my foster home. I know sit, stay, come, and shake well and we have been practicing things like down, off, gentle, and leave it. I like to jump up and give people hugs but I am learning that is not good manners. I learn quickly because I am a people-pleaser and I also love treat rewards!
My last family gave me to a shelter because I didn’t want to share my food with the toddler. My foster family has seen no evidence of resource guarding in their home.. I have been tested with the other dogs and my foster family.. but I will not be placed with a family with children under the age of 12..
I do really well in my crate but if it were up to me I would rather be out and about with my people! I also do well in the car and on a leash.
If you would like to meet our resident Panda bear, please go to the website, read about Adoption and submit an application.. If you already have one, just Contact Us..
3-4 year old black bi male weighs approx. 53 #.. Elway arrived yesterday by private plane thanks to Pilots n Paws.. He is neutered and HW-.. his foster home is in downtown Houston.. he will be evaluated and chipped and should be available for adoption at the end of June..
