Chilli, STAR #2051
We found a great home for our sweet girl Chilli who will get to live with Joey and be an only and adored dog! This is Joey’s 2nd STAR dog, and we are so happy when Alumni think of us when they are ready to add a fur buddy to the home. Thank you so much to Christine and family for fostering, to Lisa for the home visit and to Lisa, Julie and Janis for transport.
Chilli is a blue merle female, 3 years old and 40lbs. She was released to STAR when your family did not have time for her. She’s been in a foster home for about 3 weeks (as of 12/5) and here is a bio from her foster mom [please review before applying]:
This gorgeous girl is the perfect mix of sweet, calm, and just the right amount of playful. She has a gentle nature that makes her an absolute joy to be around.
A true Velcro dog, you will never feel lonely with this girl around. She’s happiest when she’s by your side. Whether you’re working, relaxing, or pottering about the house, she’s right there with you, quietly keeping you company.
She shows impressive manners and has learnt the rules of the house incredibly quickly. She listens well, responds to “no” without fuss, and genuinely wants to please. She is fully housebroken and will pace by the back door to signal she wants to go outside.
She absolutely adores her walks. The moment she sees her leash; she breaks into the cutest bum wiggles you’ve ever seen — so dramatic you’d think she might wiggle a hip right out! On her walks, she loves taking her time to sniff the ground and explore all the interesting smells and sounds around her. Loud or sudden noises can startle her, but with gentle reassurance, she’s soon trotting along again.
When it comes to crating, she does wonderfully for her foster mum, she settles quickly and snoozes without any fuss. With her foster dad, she needs a little extra encouragement (usually in the form of a tasty treat) to head inside, but once she’s in, she relaxes just as easily.
Even though she’s crate trained, she’s so trustworthy that we’ve been comfortable leaving her loose in the house for a few hours, and she’s been an absolute star. At night she now sleeps in her own bed in our room, snoozing peacefully through the night and waiting patiently for her foster mum to wake up. Previously she was crated and slept soundly all night, but we simply haven’t felt the need to crate her anymore.
Her favorite thing in the entire world is belly rubs. And she’s not shy about asking for them! She’ll roll onto her back, show you her fluffy belly, and even offer you her paw to hold whilst you gently stroke her. If you dare stop before she’s finished, she’ll give you the sweetest little tap with her paw or nose as a polite “more, please!” She knows exactly what she wants and communicates it with charm and a little bit of sass.
She enjoys spending time in the yard, but after a short while she’ll head to the door to let you know she’s ready to come back inside. She gets the occasional burst of zoomies, so a good-sized yard for her to stretch her legs would be perfect. She loves her toys and will happily play on her own – tossing, catching, and tugging them. She’ll also try to involve you in the fun, proudly parading a toy in her mouth and teasing you to come get it. It’s incredibly sweet.
She isn’t currently living with other animals, but on walks she shows a gentle, curious interest in every furry friend she sees — dogs, squirrels, rabbits, even birds. There’s no aggression or prey drive in her. Her body language suggests she simply wants to make friends and have fun
This girl LOVES her person and that person needs to be a female. She simply isn’t comfortable with men. While she has lived with a man for several years, without any aggression, she is noticeably more relaxed, confident, and happy in the company of women. Around men, she can be quite stubborn and will avoid letting them walk her or do much for her, especially if her trusted female person isn’t nearby.
For her happiness and well-being, we feel she would thrive best in a calm, female-only home where she can fully settle and bond with her chosen person.
To apply for Chilli, complete an adoption form available on our website, under “adopt” and we’ll review and get back to you. Her foster home is in Houston.
Chilli is an owner release who simply did not have time for her. She’s a beautiful blue merle female, around 3 years old and 40lbs. We will assess her in a foster home in Katy. She may be available early to mid-December.
