Bruce, STAR #1867

ADOPTED

Bruce, STAR #1867

Hooray!!! Bruce was adopted today. The McAdams family have now adopted four dogs from STAR. Bruce will be the perfect playmate for Luna and more importantly the perfect project and companion for Don in his retirement – a buddy to take to the country house. Thanks to Mel and then to Sean and Kristin for fostering.

Bruce was found as a stray wandering in NW Houston.  He’s highly intelligent dog – and learns fast.  He is a “nuclear bomb” of energy and loves life!  We estimate he’s around 18 months old and around 40lbs.

He gets along with everyone really well – loves other dogs, plays with the cats, and loves people.  He does like to jump on people and jump on the couch – but he’s learning quickly those are off limits.  When reprimanded, he will look at you to for direction on what you want him to do.

He’s a bit of a challenge on a leash as he likes to pull and so a harness or gentle leader will be key in helping him improve on walks. We are not sure he has been on a leash much – he’s just so excited and wants to sniff everybody and everything.

Bruce is crate trained – and will go in with a ‘go to your home’ command. He is housebroken and uses a dog door.

He loves to run and play = and can play rough with dogs, so he needs a sturdy, equal energy partner in crime and one that is OK sharing attention of the humans. Bruce is super energetic, and he requires supervision and stimulation – or he may choose to make bad choices:  Bruce has a habit of stealing things to destroy.  He will take a towel, shoe, bag of dirt, pillow, dog bed, anything that he can get ahold of, and run off with it and then it’s a fun game of keep away.

He does well in the car – and loves to look outside the window and will lay down.  He’s not a fan of the groomers but will tolerate it.

Bruce loves treats and will want one when asked to show off his manners like sitting, shaking paws, getting in the crate, etc.

Overall, while he can be a “thunderhead,” – he is also very sweet and loving and has attached himself to his foster family – especially his foster dad.

If you are interested in learning more about Bruce, please complete an adoption application.
