Riley, STAR #2085

Riley has been adopted! Derrick and Keeley, and their spunky mini-Aussie Arya were looking to add a dog to the home and Riley is a perfect match. Welcome to the STAR Family and thank you for choosing a rescue.  Thank you, Amy for another wonderful foster job with Riley, and to Kim for the home visit.

Family/Pets: Currently, only Keeley and her husband Derrick live in the home

Striking Blue Merle Gentleman with a Playful Spirit!
Riley is a handsome blue merle boy with two beautiful blue, merled eyes, a wavy coat, and a big heart to match. Around 5 years of age and weighing in at about 61 pounds, this sweet pup has been settling into his foster home for the past couple of weeks and is already showing what a wonderful companion he’ll be for the right family.
Like many dogs adjusting to a new environment, Riley spent his first few days learning the routine with taking plenty of trips outside, drinking lots of water, and sticking close to his foster while he figured things out. As his confidence has grown, he’s begun exploring more of the house and checking in on his canine foster sibling, Huck.
Riley enjoys his meals and currently eats one cup of food morning and evening. He took a couple of days to get used to the routine, but now happily finishes his meals. He has developed a counter-surfing skill – so if you leave your sandwich in reach, he’s likely to take it.
One of Riley’s favorite things? Playtime with Huck. These two have become enthusiastic wrestling partners, engaging in energetic rounds of what his foster family jokingly calls “body-slamming.” After a good play session, the pair usually collapse for a well-earned rest before gearing up for the next round. Riley clearly enjoys having a canine buddy to romp around with.
Riley also recently received some excellent news at the vet. After going more than three years without vaccinations or heartworm prevention, he was given a clean bill of health. He is heartworm negative, fully vaccinated, microchipped, and has now been neutered. He has recovered smoothly from surgery and hasn’t shown any signs of discomfort.
In his foster home so far, Riley has proven to be a sweet, affectionate dog who enjoys companionship and being near his people. As he continues to settle in, his foster family is learning more about his personality each day; but what they’ve seen so far suggests he’s going to make someone a wonderful companion. We did find out that he’s not a fan of thunder – so we turned the TV on a little louder and worked on letting him know it would be ok.
Riley would likely thrive in a home that offers space to stretch his legs, regular exercise, and plenty of companionship. A playful dog friend could be a bonus for this social guy, but most of all he’s looking for a loving family who will include him in their daily lives.
With his striking looks, playful energy, and gentle nature, Riley is shaping up to be a truly special dog who will make a lucky family very happy.
Riley’s foster home is in Houston. Please complete an application to be considered as an adopter, learn more about and meet him.
IMPORTANT: We do not deliver dogs to adopters. You must be able and willing to come meet the dog in their foster home. A home visit by one of our STAR volunteers is a required part of our adoption program. Adoptions outside of Texas are rare because of these requirements. You must have a secure fence in place, and we are not fans of apartments for this breed, nor homes where the dogs will be home alone 8+ hours daily. All STAR dogs are adopted to be inside pets and family members only and all current or past pets in the home must have proof of being kept up to date on vaccinations and Heartworm prevention. The adoption fee is $300 and trust us, we spend that or much more on dogs to get them vetted – all STAR dogs will be neutered/spayed, up to date on vaccinations, microchipped, heartworm negative, and on monthly heartworm prevention. If you already have an application on file with us, you can contact us to let us know you are interested.
