Max, STAR #1988

Max is headed home with Tracy and Eric. He will join this active couple who lost their golden retriever mix a few yrs ago (also named Max!). He will have four adult children to give him lots of love and attention as well. Thank you to Sheila for fostering Max.

Max is a handsome Blue Merle Male – approximately 6 years old and 50lbs.  He’s neutered, fully vetted, chipped and ready to find his forever home. He was an owner release who simply did not have time for him and wanted for him to have a more active life… and that’s what we’d like for him too!  Here’s a bio on Max from his foster mom:

“From looks to personality, Max is a rock star!

No surprise that people gravitate to him wherever he goes.  He loves the attention and praise.  He has the most expressive, adoring eyes, so he’s a hard one to resist.  When guests come over, he’s on a leash until everyone is settled.  Once he’s released, he greets calmly, and he uses those eyes and his sweet nature to win their hearts and, sometimes, crawl into a lap.   After getting attention, he’ll find a comfy spot to curl up and listen to the conversations.

He’s won over the two female canines in his foster home.  He plays appropriately and reads their signals.   If he oversteps a boundary and gets corrected, he’ll step back, and look at his human as if to ask, “But what did I do?”     When it’s time for a treat, he waits patiently for his turn.  Not a resource guarding bone in this boy’s body.   He’s met several neighborhood dogs and been friendly with all.

We’ve all heard stories of rock stars occasionally being less than stellar guests.   Couldn’t ask for a more well-mannered house guest than Max.   He’s house-trained and is trustworthy to be left out loose when his humans are gone. Nothing out of place when you get home.  He will get in his crate occasionally and nap, but there’s been no need to insist he stay in it for a prolonged period.

When he first arrived, he knew how to sit but just couldn’t keep that bottom on the ground for more than a nanosecond. He’s mastering sit and stay at mealtimes, when getting ready to walk, at curbs, getting out of the car, and when getting his picture made. Like a true star, he’s learning to play to the camera.

This boy loves to go on tour! Walks are extremely important to him, going on two walks a day for a total of 6 – 7 miles. He enjoys outings to state parks, downtown Austin, shopping with his foster mom, and even lifting weights at the gym with his foster dad.  Say the words, “go”, “walk”, or “leash” and the bouncing and barking starts, so you better be ready to go.  While he’s been to swimming pools and rivers, he’s not a water boy. He walks well on leash, but he was initially so enthralled with the outside world that he ignored the person at the other end of the leash. He’s now more responsive and will check in with his handler frequently, unless he sees another dog because, being the rock star he is, he wants them to notice him.

Mick Jagger is still rocking on tour at 81 years old, and Max expects to be rocking for a long time, too.  Max deserves someone who is active and wants to go places and do things with him.”

If you’d like to be considered as an adopter for Max, you need to first fill out an adoption application.  We will review and get in contact with you asap.
