Tex, STAR #1949

ADOPTED

Tex, STAR #1949

Tex has been adopted by Manny and Astro, STAR #1930. Smiles all around and many adventures ahead.  Thank you, Gregory family for fostering Tex.

Tex is a stunning blue merle male who is 2 years old (birthday Dec 3rd) and weighs 47 lbs.  He is neutered, up-to-date on vaccinations, on heart worm preventative, house trained, and is chipped. While his weight is fine, he could also gain a few lbs.  He’s smart, and needs consistency, rules, and time to adjust to a new owner environment.

Tex is a sweet heart, who loves his family, and wants to be with them.  He will bond with his owner and follow them around like a shadow. He’s fine with men, women, and children, and has been around younger children.  Since Tex likes to give occasional hugs, he may be better suited to a home with older children, so he doesn’t knock a younger one down. Sometimes Tex will bark at a person on first meeting, but then settles down.

Tex has blended well with our pack, and especially likes to run and play with our female Aussie-mix. Since he has alot of energy, a home with another playmate would be a plus.  Our smaller miniature Aussie and Tex pretty much ignore each other, although he’s tried to initiate play outside and she just chases him away.  He has not been tested with cats.

While Tex can be coaxed into a crate with a treat, he’s generally not a fan. Outside the crate, he is fine loose at night as well as during the day if someone is home with him. He has shown some separation anxiety, so should be crated when his people leave the house.

Tex loves to chase a tennis ball, and will usually bring it back, but may not easily give it up.  There are a few inside toys that he’ll play with too.

On walks, Tex pulls like a freight train for the first 1/4 mile or so, then settles down a bit. He can be reactive to some dogs, people, and running deer, but will, sometimes reluctantly, keep moving with guidance.  Tex’s adopter might consider working on his walking and reactivity with a trainer.

If an unleashed Tex pushes his way out a house or car door into an unfenced area, he may take off for a run. Since his name recall in an unfenced area isn’t very strong, his adopter will need either a GPS collar or an Apple Air Tag affixed to his collar before taking him home.

If you are interested in learning more about Tex and potentially adopt, the first step is to complete our adoption application – on our website, under adopt (click “apply for adoption” at the bottom of the page). His foster home is in Georgetown.

This very alert boy has had quite the adventure. Found in the street in San Antonio, he moved to foster care in Georgetown. And he has a chip that was initially missed at Petsmart; however, his owner is unable to keep him so he will remain with STAR and be vetted and evaluated. Tex is close to two years old, 47 lbs. and is a blue merle male. Depending on his heartworm test, he should be available near the end of November.
