Slate, STAR #1894
Slate came to us from the shelter where he landed after being hit by a car and ending up with a fractured pelvis. Fast forward a few months after some loving care and crate rest at his foster home – and he’s now off to a great life with Michael and gets an Aussie sister named Lucy. Lots of walks and trips to the local dog park are in his future. Thank you, Nancy for another great foster job. Slate was so excited to meet Michael, he could not take time to pose for his picture!
Slate is now about a year old, around 30lbs, neutered, chipped and up to date on his vaccinations.
Slate had a bit of a rough start in life. In February 2024, he and his partner in crime (Sloane, STAR #1895) were investigating the roadways and Slate was hit by a car. The compassionate, generous driver picked up both puppies and took them to the vet in Bay City. The puppies had a weeks’ worth of vet care paid for by the driver but then had to find another place to go.
Unfortunately, Slate was found to have a fractured pelvis. His recovery to being able to stand within a week was remarkable. STAR was contacted about both boys and secured foster homes for them. Slate’s future with a shelter was doubtful at best with his injury – but with crate rest and TLC, he’d be fine.
Needless to say, Slate was restricted to his crate and continued his medication. A month into his recovery he was strong enough to be neutered. The follow-up recommendation was another month of restricted activity and he’s done really well and recovered nicely.
Slate is now acting like the puppy he should be! He is crated trained but can get vocal when he needs out. He is not overly destructive but does like paper towels and will counter surf. He gets along fine with his two older roommates (8 years old, male and female Aussies).
His energy level is increasing, and he does not show any signs of his previous injury. He is a feisty little boy who has a silly personality. He is a known chair thief who can get to a chair faster than you, guaranteed. He’s friendly, happy, and has a great appetite. He so wants to play and be close to you, still such a puppy in a lot of ways!
He has a very slender build and the cutest 360-degree tail which he wags constantly.
This is his second chance at life, are you his person or new family?
To learn more about Slate, please complete an adoption application. His foster home is in Katy.
Slate is a found dog that was hit by a car. He was with his buddy Sloane. Slate is a black tri male approx. 10 mos. old and 30 lbs. His injuries can be resolved with crate rest. If this is your dog, please be ready to present STAR with photos and vet records and be willing to pay our expenses. Slate is fully vaccinated, HW-. will be neutered and chipped. His foster home is in Katy, and he should be available for adoption around the middle of April.
