ADOPTED

Mishka, STAR #2089

Mishka made such an impression on her foster parents that they could not envision letting her go, so she’s “home” with the Ward family. From being abandoned in Alaska, to a flight to Texas to STAR a loving forever home – this is such a win-win! Adoption photo coming soon.

Mishka is a 3-year-old black bi female and weighs 45 pounds. She came to us all the way from Alaska! She was found abandoned by her family and left to fend for herself, along with another Aussie. She traveled to Texas to be a STAR dog and is being fostered in Austin.  She is now ready to find her forever home!  Here’s a bio from her foster mom:

Mishka is even more gorgeous in person than in her photos.  This beautiful girl is cautious and reserved in new environments.  However, once you earn her trust, Mishka’s sweet, playful and silly personality shines through.

Mishka has excellent manners. She is house-trained and communicates clearly and politely when she needs to go outside. She does not counter surf and has not been destructive.  Mishka is highly intelligent and has quickly learned the routine in her foster home.  She is food-motivated, eager to please, and wiggles with delight when told what a good, smart pup she is.  Mishka absolutely soaks up affection and praise.  She is happiest when she can be close to her people – very much a velcro dog.

On leash, Mishka is generally easy to walk.  She gets excited by squirrels and rabbits and may pull if she sees them, but she responds well to guidance and is otherwise very manageable.   Her name recall is improving, but she could be a flight risk in a new and unfamiliar environment.  We recommend the use of a GPS tracker (Apple AirTag or similar) on her collar until she fully bonds with her forever family.

Mishka gets along nicely with the other dogs in her foster home (one male Aussie, one female Aussie and one older female terrier mix).  She LOVES to play chase with them.  She is learning to coexist with the dog-savvy cats in her foster home and has shown no aggression towards them.

Mishka is looking for a calm, patient, and experienced Aussie home where she can feel safe.  We think Mishka would do best in a home with another dog friend to play with.

Mishka is house-trained, spayed, microchipped and up-to-date on vaccinations and monthly heartworm prevention.  If you would like to learn more about her and potentially adopt, please fill out an application on our website.

IMPORTANT: We do not deliver dogs to adopters. You must be able and willing to come meet the dog in their foster home. A home visit by one of our STAR volunteers is a required part of our adoption program. Adoptions outside of Texas are rare because of these requirements. You must have a secure fence in place, and we are not fans of apartments for this breed, nor homes where the dogs will be home alone 8+ hours daily. All STAR dogs are adopted to be inside pets and family members only and all current or past pets in the home must have proof of being kept up to date on vaccinations and Heartworm prevention. The adoption fee is $300 and trust us, we spend that or much more on dogs to get them vetted – all STAR dogs will be neutered/spayed, up to date on vaccinations, microchipped, heartworm negative, and on monthly heartworm prevention. If you already have an application on file with us, you can contact us to let us know you are interested.
