May, STAR # 1487

ADOPTED.. May, STAR # 1487..

May traveled to STAR from Vermilion Parish in La. After months in foster care and heartworm treatment, she has found her person, Jeannice.. She will be her full time companion.. Many thanks to Erin, Michael and Michelle for transport help and to Christine and her family for loving May..

May came to STAR from the shelter in Vermilion Parish, La.
She is 2-3 years old and weighs 42 lbs.  She is
totally vetted and microchipped and will complete
her heartworm treatment the first week in October.. It is time for her
to find a forever family..

Here is the bio that her foster mom wrote describing May’s personality.
“May is a sweet, loving, and snuggly dog. She absolutely loves her people. She sits and watches me while I do things around the house, and follows me a lot of the time. She wants nothing more than to snuggle and give kisses. May is very affectionate and when she looks into my eyes, I can see how happy she is and how much she loves me. She is very curious and loves to have her nose in whatever I am doing. It is very cute!
She is also very active, agile, and tireless. Before her heart worm treatment began, I was able to take her outside every few hours and play fetch for at least 30 minutes without her taking a break. I would have two tennis balls in rotation, so she really didn’t get a break for more than a second or two. She is amazingly agile! I haven’t tried her with a frisbee yet, but this girl can jump. She is also food motivated and will do anything for a treat. She is easily trained because of this. She quickly picked up that her food is given to her in the same spot and she understands when I say that it is dinner time, and is sitting when I arrive.
Our morning routine is pretty set and she knows what I am doing and what it means for her. For example, she knows that she gets the tops of the strawberries after I slice them for the kids’ lunches. She is pretty good in the crate. There is not a lot of complaining about going in, but she isn’t a fan of being in there while things are going on in the other room. She definitely has a fear of missing out lol. So, she is pretty active and probably needs someone who can keep up with her and tire her out. When she is tired, she gets very snuggly and chatty. She talks to me all the time and it is so cute!
All in all, she is wonderful. She needs time to meet new people, but once she knows them she loves everyone. We just take time introducing her to new people. As far as other dogs go, she gets along wonderfully with my 9 year old male aussie, Boomer. She LOVES him. She did not like an older female border collie that we had in the house for a while. The nine month old female puppy was a fast friend and they played very well together.
She is housebroken and has been left for extended periods without having an accident inside. She did go in the house once but that was the first day she was here and I know she was very stressed.
I think her ideal home would be with a fairly active family who can play with her in a good sized backyard. They could have kids or not. She has been pretty good with mine, except for wanting to herd Jacqueline. Older kids would be best. I definitely would not recommend her going to a home with small kids. If someone is looking for a dog to do agility with, May would be great. I would be ok with her going to a home without a large backyard as long as there is a solid plan for giving her the amount of exercise she needs. She is wonderful on walks, lots of sniffing and no pulling. Walks would be great for her to get over her initial fear of new people.
May needs someone who can guide her and help her feel safe. She gets nervous and barks at the vet at first. She is a delightful girl who will love you with her whole heart! We adore her here!!”
If you would like to meet May, her foster home is in the Woodlands.. Please read about adoption on our website and submit an application.. If you already have one, simply contact us on the website or PM the FB page..
