Boots, STAR #2103
We have excellent news to share – Boots has been adopted! He caught the eye of Stephanie, and this is a great match. He’s off to live a fun life with walks, hikes, and other adventures around Texas. Stephanie is dog savvy (and formerly a vet tech) and we look forward to getting updates on all the thing Boots will learn and experience in his new mom! Thank you, Bill and Elaine for fostering until we could find him the perfect spot and to Beth for the home visit.
💙 Meet Boots — a big-hearted charmer looking for his person 🐾
Boots is a handsome 5-year-old blue merle, weighing 47 pounds. He’s smart, trusting, affectionate, and happiest when he’s with his person and family. His tail nubbin is in constant motion when he greets you or you interact with him – he’s a happy boy!
This sweet boy loves attention and physical affection – belly rubs are a favorite, he’ll place his front paws in your lap for a hug, and given the chance, he’d curl up next to you on the couch or bed. Boots bonds deeply with both men and women and will follow his person around. He’s spent time around a 7-year-old and did well, but loud voices and high-energy activity can get him excited, so a home with older, calmer kids is the best fit.
Boots is very smart, too – the kind of clever that lights up the second you pull out a treat. He’s food motivated to his core, which makes training feel less like a chore and more like a game he’s always winning. He’d likely excel at nose work/scent detection or agility. He loves chasing tennis balls indoors and out and enjoys carrying around stuffed and squeaky toys (gently-he’s not a destroyer, just a collector).
Boots is crate trained, house trained, neutered, microchipped, fully vaccinated, and current on heartworm prevention. He’s currently fostered in Georgetown and ready to find his forever home. If you’d like to learn more about Boots or are interested in adopting him, the first step is to complete an adoption application at the link below.

IMPORTANT: We do not deliver dogs to adopters – you must be able and willing to come meet the dog in their foster home. A home visit by one of our STAR volunteers is a required part of our adoption program and thus, adoptions outside of Texas are rare because of these two requirements. You must have a secure fence in place, and we are not fans of apartments for this breed, nor homes where the dogs will be home alone 8+ hours daily. All STAR dogs are adopted to be inside pets and family members only and all current or past pets in the home must have proof of being kept up to date on vaccinations and Heartworm prevention. The adoption fee is $400 and trust us, we spend that or much more on dogs to get them vetted – all STAR dogs will be neutered/spayed, up to date on vaccinations, microchipped, heartworm negative, and on monthly heartworm prevention. If you already have an application on file with us, you can contact us to let us know you are interested.
Boots is a handsome 5 year old blue merle male and weighs 48lbs. He was a fan favorite at the Bell County Shelter where he was taken on 9 different occasions. His owners didn’t feel the need to keep him in a fenced in yard. They didn’t come back for him this last time either. Welcome to STAR, Boots!! Your life has just gotten a whole lot better. Boots will be fostered in Georgetown where he will be vetted and neutered.
