Luke, STAR #1864

Luke not only got to go visit Santa, but he also got the news that he’s found his forever home with his foster family!  Luke came to us from the shelter in San Marcos – downtrodden and scared of everything.  Once he realized he was safe and loved – he was all about hopping in bed for morning snuggling, trips to the farmers market, and of course – telling Santa about the toys he wants under the tree, which includes socks.  Thank you, Michelle for fostering this good boy.

Luke is a very handsome 1.5 year old Black Tri Male, around 45lbs.  He was picked up from a shelter in San Marcos.  He’s fully vetted, neutered, and ready to find his perfect home.  More about Luke from this foster home:

“For such a young dog he is very mild mannered, perhaps he is just so tired from being on the run he’s finally in a safe place to get rest & relaxation?!

Luke has had no formal training, but he is slowly learning – maybe he was a crate puppy so far in life? No leash skills – so we have him on a harness for walks for his safety.

He’s come a very long way since coming to our home – from very skittish and tentative about everything – to relaxing more and more every day. When he first arrived, he was downtrodden, scared… fast forward about 3 weeks and he has made great strides & his personality is shining through!

It was 3 weeks before we heard him bark and boy does he mean business when he does! He is very loving & likes being near his humans, watches their every move.  Absolutely no signs of aggression toward people or other dogs.

Luke is very loveable, hops in bed for morning loving & snuggling, otherwise he sleeps at front door or on floor near bed. He loves to sniff around dog park, gets the zoomies, runs & hops happily.  Greets other dogs & shows interest in wanting to play.

So many positives! On the work in progress side:

1 – continuing to give him love, reassurance and patience so he knows he’s safe.

2- keep him secure on a harness; he could be a flight risk when scared

3 – not a fan of car rides (probably had not been in one until he landed in the shelter) – just need to let him know it’s not a scary thing.

4- basic manners and learning what is proper to chew on and what is not (loves rugs!)

This boy is going to make a wonderful addition to a home where there is love, patience, and support as he gains confidence in life.”
