Frio, STAR #1851
Frio is heading home with Pam and partner. They recently lost their mini Aussies at ages 14 and 15 years old and were eager to welcome another Aussie into their home. Frio has a fun life ahead with possible training as a therapy dog – but definitely with playing catch, frisbee, roaming the acreage, trips to Tractor Supply and more. Thank you, Christina for fostering this good boy and caring for him during heartworm treatment.
Frio is a black tri male 55 lbs. and 5 years old – and a very charming Australian Shepherd who simply radiates gratitude for every ounce of love and care he receives. A gentle pat on his head, a belly rub, or a kind word and you’ll witness a dog that’s a true embodiment of thankfulness.
He walks on a leash multiple times, daily. He loves being out in the fresh air! He does not mind his crate and will enter when asked.
Recent visitors were warmly welcomed by Frio as usual. He gets along beautifully with human and canine guests!
His outdoor adventures are a joy to watch, as he enjoys running and playing with other dogs, always staying within the yard and engaging appropriately with his doggie companions. He quickly found his place in the group, knowing which dogs enjoy playful tumbles and which prefer a more relaxed interaction. Frio’s sweet nature extends to interactions with both dogs and humans, as he gets along splendidly with everyone.
Frio is remarkably responsive to redirection, except for one minor exception – he persists in the habit of jumping up on people. His affectionate nature shines through, as he’ll even attempt to kiss you right on the mouth while you’re telling him to get down, a testament to his love for his family. He is equally attentive and seamlessly engages with all members of the household.
Transitioning to wearing a collar was a breeze for Frio, and he’s currently embarking on his leash training journey. His passion for chasing squirrels and rabbits is undeniable, and he loves sharing these adventures with his foster brothers.
Frio’s friendly with people of all ages and gets along famously with other dogs, particularly those who aren’t overly assertive. Even when his foster brothers try to monopolize mom’s attention, Frio remains easygoing and patient.
He would do well in homes with other dogs and older kids. Although sweet to all, his enthusiasm for people has him jumping up on everyone which wouldn’t be a good fit with younger children. He will make a wonderful, loving addition to the right forever home. Frio has not been tested around cats.
Frio has been treated for heartworms and neutered during his stay with STAR. He is housebroken and his foster home is in Navasota. If you are interested in learning mor about Frio and potential adoption, please start by completing an adoption application on our website under “adopt”.
He will be vetted and evaluated by his foster home in Navasota. Sadly, he has heartworms and won’t be available for adoption until the end of October.
Update from Foster: Frio has seamlessly adapted to his new home, spending the past week off-leash in the same room without any concerns. Although he’s not yet given full house privileges after a trial run resulted in a shredded tissue box, his curiosity about indoor surroundings is evident, requiring some guidance during his learning process. In terms of housebreaking, Frio has mastered the art of going outside, and he willingly retreats to his kennel when requested. His outdoor adventures are a joy to watch, as he enjoys running and playing with other dogs, always staying within the yard and engaging appropriately with his doggie companions.
