Devyn, STAR #1848

ADOPTED

Devyn, STAR #1848

Devyn has found his forever home with STAR alumni, the Klopotoskis.  This handsome Aussie found his way to STAR from a shelter in Louisiana and was found to be positive for heartworms.  STAR and his wonderful foster mom, Brandi, took care of his health needs and we were so excited that he’ll be dog buddies with Lucy Katy, STAR #1706.  Thankyou Elaine, Don, and Patrick for transport.

This is Devyn – a handsome 41 lb. Black Tri male from the Eunice shelter in Louisiana. He is approx. 1.5 -2 years old. Devon has been neutered and sadly is heartworm positive. He will be treated and evaluated by his foster home in San Antonio. Devon should be available for adoption around the first of October.

Update from Foster:  He continues to love everyone and everything. Friendly with visitors. Cats were sitting in close proximity and he didn’t pay them any attention. He isn’t a barker even though other dog in house is a crazy barker. He is a cuddle bug and his favorite place to be is in someone’s lap.

Devyn is the handsomest boy! He gets love and attention wherever he goes because everyone finds him so handsome and friendly. He is currently in a foster home with 2 adults and 2 older teens. He is around 2 years old.

He loves everyone in the home and all visitors. He doesn’t bark when strangers come into the house because to Devyn, everyone is a friend. He doesn’t bark when he is outside in the yard even when the neighborhood dogs are barking.

He has made great progress with crate training and will now go in with a simple ‘in’. He does get really excited when let out of the crate, so we have been putting him on a lead to help keep him calm.

Devyn has started to show some interest in the cats and will show this by jumping on a gate that separates dog area from cat area. He has yet to be interested enough to jump over the gate.

Devyn get along exceedingly well with the other dog in house. They are best mates and love to engage in a game of ‘bitey face’. He is good with being fed in the same room as the other dog but does require supervision as he will eat his food and the other dog’s food as well. He enjoys a variety of treats and a filled, frozen Kong. He will also play with a variety of toys and will sometimes chase a ball (though he doesn’t usually bring it back).

Devyn’s favorite place is in someone’s lap or sitting next to them receiving pets. He will wedge himself in between his foster parent and the other dog when other dog is getting attention.  He needs to be in a house where the other dog is ok with Devyn needing extra attention. Devyn will sit next to his foster parent and paw at them to get their attention. This is being addressed by planned to ignore with lots of love given when he is sitting quietly by their side and not demanding attention (pawing at them).

Devyn has been working on basic manners like sit, wait, look at me, and off. He is a bit bouncy and the ‘off’ command is used when he jumps on someone. Turning your back and ignoring him has had some success. He has not shown an interest in counter surfing.

Devyn has not gone on many walks as he is Heartworm positive and is currently restricted in activity. He is good on the lead when taken outside to potty and was previously good on the lead going to the vet. He has had a few car rides and became sick during 2 of those rides. He has been in the car a few times since and has not become sick. He is very well behaved in the car once settled and will sit in the back seat and look out the window. He would climb into his foster parent’s lap if allowed so he is restrained in the back seat with a harness at all times.

Overall, Devyn is a wonderful dog that will make someone very happy. He is so very sweet and just wants to show his love and be loved.  He needs to go to a home with older children just because he is a bit bouncy and can scratch when he jumps up. He has so far not chased the cats, but he has shown some curiosity.  Devyn would do well in a home with another dog, but the dog needs to be tolerant of Devyn’s need for attention and his way of pushing in between dog and parent.

Devyn is very healthy and has fully recovered from his heartworm treatment – ready to find his forever home.

Please complete an adoption application if you are interested to see if Devyn is the perfect fit for your home.
