Canyon, STAR #2088

Super sweetheart Canyon (on left) has been adopted by STAR Alumni; This makes his 5th STAR dog! – Khaki #890 ’11, Cramer #1191 ’15 and Priscilla #1379 ’18 (R) and Dodger #1493 ’19 (C). Canyon’s story is one that reminds us why rescue saves dogs – from dumped in Cleveland, TX in poor shape and infected with heartworms to a foster home that cared for him for many months to get him back to health and shepherd him through heartworm treatment. Through it all – he was so sweet and so grateful and captured everyone’s hearts. Thank you, to the Daily Kibble team on the ground saving dogs every day and entrusting him to STAR. Thank you, Juli and family for another wonderful foster job.

Canyon is a dog that was found wandering/dumped in Cleveland, TX – and secured for us by the team on the ground there helping dogs – The Daily Kibble. He was very skinny and had heartworms. Since with STAR for several months, he’s been cared for in a loving foster home, put on needed weight, vaccinated, microchipped and treated for heartworms. We are ready to find him a forever home.

Canyon is a gorgeous 65lb, 5-6 year old (estimate), red merle male with beautiful blue eyes, a heart shaped nose, and a full tail. This sweet, gentle boy is so easy and calm. He just wants to be your best friend and hang out with you all the time.

He is friendly with other dogs, men and women. He hasn’t been around children, but we believe he would do well with gentle introductions. He is good on a leash and loves walks. He also enjoys car rides and running errands.

He sleeps easily through the night in the master bedroom on his dog bed without a peep. He also has great house manners and has enjoyed having the run of the house including when no one is home with no issues.

Canyon is very smart, learns quickly, and wants to please. He will listen and comply even when he doesn’t want to, but he will make a face letting you know how he feels. He can be a bit of a character and sometimes talks to his foster siblings when he wants to play or when they have a toy he wants.

Canyon is very laid back and would do well either with canine siblings or as an only dog. He is really all about his people.

Canyon’s foster home is in Houston. He has been fully vaccinated, neutered and microchipped. Please complete an application to be considered as an adopter, learn more about and meet him.

IMPORTANT: We do not deliver dogs to adopters. You must be able and willing to come meet the dog in their foster home. A home visit by one of our STAR volunteers is a required part of our adoption program. Adoptions outside of Texas are rare because of these requirements. You must have a secure fence in place, and we are not fans of apartments for this breed, nor homes where the dogs will be home alone 8+ hours daily. All STAR dogs are adopted to be inside pets and family members only and all current or past pets in the home must have proof of being kept up to date on vaccinations and Heartworm prevention. The adoption fee is $300 and trust us, we spend that or much more on dogs to get them vetted – all STAR dogs will be neutered/spayed, up to date on vaccinations, microchipped, heartworm negative, and on monthly heartworm prevention. If you already have an application on file with us, you can contact us to let us know you are interested.

Canyon is a dog that was found wandering/dumped in Cleveland, TX – and secured for us by the team on the ground there helping dogs – The Daily Kibble. He’s skinny and HW+ sadly.  We estimate him to be around 5 years old and is currently 60lbs – should be around 70lbs we think. We will give him the care he needs, and he’ll be fostered in Houston. He may be available in May pending his health outcomes.
