Brodie, STAR #2100

Handsome Brodie is off to live a great life with Larry and Susan on their acreage in North Dallas. They recently lost their dogs, Bella and Duchess – both American Shepherds and were missing having a dog in their home and life. Brodie will get full run of the place and lots of TLC. Thank you, Brian and family for fostering.

Brodie is a gorgeous, 3-year-old / 80lb blue merle STUD with a very sweet and fairly low energy personality. He came to STAR after his owner passed away and the family was not able to keep him – he’s been loved and cared for very well – just needs to find a new home. Here’s what we have learned about him in his foster home:

Brodie is content to chill with his family though he loves to run and chase a bike or play tug of war with a toy. He is very good with children, friendly to new people, and does not wander off – a true “Velcro” Aussie.

Brodie is an excellent guard dog with a somewhat intimidating bark that he will not hesitate to use on delivery drivers, and his size makes him appear more formidable than he really is. Brodie looks a lion with a huge fluffy mane!

He has been in a foster home with three other Aussies, and his more dominant personality causes some friction with the other alphas. He has some food, bone, and attention aggression around other dogs, which is not uncommon but should be noted. He would be best in a single dog home and was raised in one initially.

While he’s not been exposed to water in his foster home, we understand that he LOVES the water and would swim with the opportunity – which would be great for weight loss and general exercise.

Brodie needs to lose about ten pounds and needs leash training, but has very few bad habits, knows a couple tricks, listens well, sticks close, and is overall an exceptional dog.

He is fully vetted, neutered and microchipped. His foster home is in Austin. To learn more, complete an application on our website.

IMPORTANT: We do not deliver dogs to adopters. You must be able and willing to come meet the dog in their foster home. A home visit by one of our STAR volunteers is a required part of our adoption program. Adoptions outside of Texas are rare because of these requirements. You must have a secure fence in place, and we are not fans of apartments for this breed, nor homes where the dogs will be home alone 8+ hours daily. All STAR dogs are adopted to be inside pets and family members only and all current or past pets in the home must have proof of being kept up to date on vaccinations and Heartworm prevention. The adoption fee is $300 and trust us, we spend that or much more on dogs to get them vetted – all STAR dogs will be neutered/spayed, up to date on vaccinations, microchipped, heartworm negative, and on monthly heartworm prevention. If you already have an application on file with us, you can contact us to let us know you are interested.

Brodie is a much-loved dog by his owner who passed away. The family has tried hard to keep him but could not as the resident dog was having none of it and there were constant squabbles. So, they have entrusted him to STAR. He’s a 3-year-old Blue Merle Male and weighs roughly 60lbs. We will evaluate him and look for the perfect home based on what he needs. He may be available late April. His foster home is in Austin.
