Becker, STAR #2086

Great news to report that Becker has found a wonderful and loving home with STAR Alum, Carolyn. Becker follows in the paw-steps of Freeway #111 ’15 and June #1020 ’19. This good boy went from a dumped stray in pretty bad shape to STAR and now to the best life ever thanks to Zully/The Daily Kibble team in Cleveland TX for rescuing him and to STAR foster mom, Nancy who gave him a safe place to land and recover. This is what rescue is all about!

Meet Becker – A Resilient Little Survivor with a Big Personality

Becker became a STAR boy after being rescued from a dump site north of Houston, arriving in heartbreaking condition. He suffered from significant skin issues, hair loss, and a tail injury. Emotionally, he was completely shut down.

For the first few weeks, Becker preferred the safety of his crate, quietly observing the world around him. But with time, care, and love – including treatment for a skin infection and a required partial tail amputation, Becker has begun to heal both physically and emotionally. His little nub wiggles as he starts to enjoy life again.

Estimated to be around 3 years old, Becker is on the smaller side at just 30 pounds. He is neutered, microchipped, heartworm negative, and up to date on all vaccinations. Becker is fully house trained. He lacks a little confidence on a leash but with routine walks, this should improve.

Becker is still learning to trust and can be cautious with recall, but his personality is blossoming. He’s lively, expressive, and loves to “talk” and dance around when he’s excited. He’s also a bit of a counter surfer, so keeping snacks out of reach is a must!

While Becker isn’t quite sure about cuddling yet, he’s making steady progress. He likes being in the same room as his person and has recently started asking for pets (on his terms). It’s clear he wants connection; he just needs someone patient to help him continue building that trust.

He gets along wonderfully with his two Aussie foster siblings (one male and one female). He hasn’t been tested with small animals or children, and because he tends to gently mouth hands, a home without young children may be best.

Becker is well-behaved overall and crates easily – especially when a treat is involved! He does have a fondness for fuzzy slippers and may quietly relocate them for his own entertainment.

He will benefit from continued training but is eager and receptive to learning. Most of all, Becker has proven himself to be incredibly resilient. With the right home, he will continue to thrive and show just how special he truly is.

Becker’s foster home is in Houston. Since with STAR, he’s been fully vaccinated, is HW-, on heartworm preventative, and been neutered. Please complete an application to be considered as an adopter, learn more about and meet him.

IMPORTANT: We do not deliver dogs to adopters. You must be able and willing to come meet the dog in their foster home. A home visit by one of our STAR volunteers is a required part of our adoption program. Adoptions outside of Texas are rare because of these requirements. You must have a secure fence in place, and we are not fans of apartments for this breed, nor homes where the dogs will be home alone 8+ hours daily. All STAR dogs are adopted to be inside pets and family members only and all current or past pets in the home must have proof of being kept up to date on vaccinations and Heartworm prevention. The adoption fee is $300 and trust us, we spend that or much more on dogs to get them vetted – all STAR dogs will be neutered/spayed, up to date on vaccinations, microchipped, heartworm negative, and on monthly heartworm prevention. If you already have an application on file with us, you can contact us to let us know you are interested.

Becker was dumped and was wandering/limping around in Cleveland TX – a good Samaritan reached out and helped secure him until we could pick him up. He’s in pretty rough shape, but very, sweet. We’ll get him to our vet ASAP for assessment and treatment.

UPDATE to those who are following Becker’s (STAR #2086) journey. We partnered with The Daily Kibble to bring him into the STAR program after he was secured as a dumped dog in Cleveland, TX. He looked absolutely pitiful, but good news that we can clear up the skin and tail issue with antibiotics and crazily enough, he is heartworm negative. WOOHOO. He’s safe and secure at a foster home in Houston where he’s getting good food, meds, rest and all the time he needs for recovery, including a much-needed bath. Thank you to those who have donated for his care – we really appreciate the funds that help us take good care of him.

UPDATE:  Most up to date picture – happy, healthy, and fur is growing back.  His energy level has returned and he’s a very playful, fun guy.

We encourage you to support the Daily Kibble’s efforts to rescue these dumped dogs – we have another one coming in (see Canyon) they helped to capture – also in poor shape, super malnourished, and HW+. The work this team does in the area is simply amazing. Donate to them here: https://www.paypal.com/ncp/payment/M2NDSWMVRTE6G
