Bear Red, STAR # 1590

ADOPTED

Bear Red, STAR # 1590

Wade and Bear were looking for the same thing.. a new best friend.. We love this match.. Thanks to Tim for the home visit
and thanks to Elizabeth for fostering this puppy..
Bear is a beautiful red bi male puppy .. He is 10 mos. old and weighs
50 lbs.  Bear has a lot to learn and needs someone willing to take on
a project with unlimited potential.. He is a good boy.. very sweet and affectionate..
Clearly he has stolen his foster mom’s heart..
She writes:
“Bear’s training is going well. He knows commands of: sit, come, stay, wait, off, leave it and  drop it. Leash training and potty training are a work in progress. He has only had three pee accidents in the three weeks he has been with me but we are still watching him.  The leash training is getting better. When he is through walking, he just sits down.  Bear responds well to a soft voice and petting. He is so gentle and loveable but needs reassurance.

Bear is kennel trained. I bribe him with a Milk Bone. He doesn’t care that it is just a small piece. I cover the crate with a flannel sheet and he is quiet all night.

A lot of things are unfamiliar to Bear. He hates the vacuum cleaner, leaf blower, the garage door going up and down and a few other things like the nozzle on the water hose and loud noises. He doesn’t attack these things, instead he runs away. Having lived his  10 mos. of life in a backyard, he is  afraid of the unknown.  He has learned a lot in just three weeks.
Bear isn’t aggressive around food or toys. He loves balls of any kind, even deflated basketballs. He is a good retriever but he doesn’t always want to give it up for you to throw it.  That’s where the command drop it comes in. He is very gentle with adults.
He doesn’t get along with my 12 year old chihuahua female who is setting boundaries.. but he has been around my cats when supervised and shown no interest in them. Bear may do better in a household as the only pet or one without small dogs or small children.
Bear is 50 pounds of sweet adorable puppy with beautiful sad gold eyes that make me just want to love him to death. He deserves that and a forever home where he can feel safe and loved.”
