Tux, STAR #2126

💙 Meet Tux, a 3-year-old, 30-pound black tri–Australian Shepherd with a heart as sweet as they come. This handsome little guy is proof that some of life’s greatest rewards are worth a little patience.

Tux was found as a stray in Louisiana, so not surprising, he came into foster care unsure of the world around him. Everything was new, unfamiliar, and a little scary. But week by week, this gentle soul has been discovering that people can be kind, couches are comfy, and cuddles are actually pretty wonderful.

The key to Tux’s success? Another dog. More than anything, Tux looks to confident canine friends for reassurance. If his foster siblings think something is safe, he’s ready to give it a try too. Whether it’s coming inside, taking treats, hopping into a lap, or simply relaxing, Tux watches his dog buddies and follows their lead. Because of this, he would do best with a friendly, well-adjusted canine companion in his forever home to help him continue building confidence.

While Tux may be shy, he’s making wonderful progress every day. He’s now housebroken with a consistent routine, crate trained, walks nicely on leash, and quietly sleeps through the night. His crate has become his safe place, and he’ll often head there on his own when he wants to rest.

One of the most heartwarming milestones came after weeks of patient encouragement when Tux surprised his foster mom by hopping into her lap for the very first time. Now that he’s learned affection feels good, he happily climbs into her chair for snuggles and quietly soaks up every bit of love. Watching him discover that he enjoys being loved has been one of the greatest joys of dog rescue.

Tux is an incredibly gentle dog. There truly isn’t an aggressive bone in his body. He gets along beautifully with other dogs, has excellent manners, and simply wants to feel safe. His foster mom affectionately jokes that she should rename him “General” because he’ll let you know when it’s time for breakfast or a potty break with his adorable little bark.

Tux will thrive in a quiet, calm home with patient adopters who understand that trust is earned, not rushed. Fast-paced households, frequent visitors, or lots of commotion won’t be the best fit for this sensitive boy. Given time, consistency, and a confident dog friend, Tux continues to blossom a little more every week. He warms up to men slower than women, so again, he’ll need patience, or even a female-only home might be ideal. His reaction to men is not aggressive, rather wary.

Tux tested positive for heartworms, has completed treatment and is well on his way to a healthy future. He is neutered, fully vaccinated, microchipped, and ready to begin the next chapter of his life.

If your home includes a happy, confident dog and you’re the kind of person who celebrates the little victories like the first tail wag, the first voluntary cuddle, or the first time a shy dog truly trusts you – then Tux may be the perfect addition to your family. The journey with Tux won’t be measured in days, but in moments that will absolutely melt your heart. And once you’ve earned his trust, you’ll have a devoted little companion who will remind you every day that love, patience, and kindness can change a life.

Please complete an application to as a next step toward adoption. His foster home is in Northwest Houston.
IMPORTANT: We do not deliver dogs to adopters. You must be able and willing to come meet the dog in their foster home. A home visit by one of our STAR volunteers is a required part of our adoption program. Adoptions outside of Texas are rare because of these requirements. You must have a secure fence in place, and we are not fans of apartments for this breed, nor homes where the dogs will be home alone 8+ hours daily. All STAR dogs are adopted to be inside pets and family members only and all current or past pets in the home must have proof of being kept up to date on vaccinations and Heartworm prevention. The adoption fee is $300 and trust us, we spend that or much more on dogs to get them vetted – all STAR dogs will be neutered/spayed, up to date on vaccinations, microchipped, heartworm negative, and on monthly heartworm prevention. If you already have an application on file with us, you can contact us to let us know you are interested.
