💙 Pongo: Handsome Boy Looking for His Favorite Person🐾

This handsome 2yr old black bi Australian Shepherd mix is about 40 pounds of pure devotion. If you’re looking for a loyal shadow who will happily follow you from room to room, curl up beside you at the end of the day, and remind you every morning just how excited he is to see you, Pongo may be your perfect match. His brown eyes will melt your heart!

When Pongo first arrived at STAR (came to us after being found as a stray in the Dallas area), we could tell he had a hip-related injury of some type and found he needed FHO surgery to help him get back on his feet – relatively simple surgery that small-medium dogs do well with and recover easily. Fast forward to he’s fully healed, moving beautifully, and ready to leave his recovery days behind for a lifetime of adventures with his forever family.

As his confidence has grown, so has his personality. The once-quiet boy has blossomed into a goofy, playful boy who loves carrying around toys, chasing tennis balls, and entertaining himself when the mood strikes. He loves to play with other dogs and is respectful if they are done playing.

Mealtime is one of his favorite events of the day, and he’ll happily let you know when dinner should be served!

Pongo is wonderfully easy to live with. He’s house trained, crate trained, knows his basic commands, and has earned enough trust to have free roam of the house when his foster family is away. He has excellent house manners and is simply a joy to have around.

His biggest “flaw?” He loves his people a lot. Pongo is what Aussie lovers affectionately call a Velcro dog. His favorite place in the world is wherever you happen to be. Whether it’s lying at your feet while you work, following you through the house, or snuggling up beside you for movie night, he’s happiest when he’s sharing life with his person. He’s made tremendous progress learning that his family always comes back, and with continued patience and consistency, he’ll only become more confident.

He walks reasonably well on leash and will benefit from continued practice as he builds confidence exploring the world. He’s eager to learn and enjoys having something to do.

Pongo is the kind of dog who doesn’t ask for much—just a loving home where he can be included as part of the family. In return, he’ll offer unwavering loyalty, endless companionship, and plenty of smiles with his sweet, goofy personality.

Introduction to the Adoption Process

IMPORTANT: We do not deliver dogs to adopters. You must be able and willing to come meet the dog in their foster home. A home visit by one of our STAR volunteers is a required part of our adoption program. Adoptions outside of Texas are rare because of these requirements. You must have a secure fence in place, and we are not fans of apartments for this breed, nor homes where the dogs will be home alone 8+ hours daily. All STAR dogs are adopted to be inside pets and family members only and all current or past pets in the home must have proof of being kept up to date on vaccinations and Heartworm prevention. The adoption fee is $300 and trust us, we spend that or much more on dogs to get them vetted – all STAR dogs will be neutered/spayed, up to date on vaccinations, microchipped, heartworm negative, and on monthly heartworm prevention. Pongo is a fun loving 1-2 year old black bi and weighs 40lbs.  He was found wandering in the Dallas area with a back leg injury.  A good Samaritan picked up the phone and called STAR.  Pongo is being fostered in the Pearland area and will get the medical care he needs until ready for adoption.  If this is your dog, be prepared to show proof of ownership and reimburse STAR for all medical expenses to date.
