Boots, STAR #2103

🐾Boots is the perfect blend of loyal companion, gentle soul, AND ready to find his person and his forever home.

Boots is a handsome 5-year-old blue merle with tan trim and a heart full of love. At 47 pounds, he’s the perfect size for someone looking for a devoted sidekick who truly enjoys being close to his people. Boots is smart, trusting, affectionate, and happiest when he’s spending time with his family.

This sweet boy absolutely loves attention and physical affection. Belly rubs are one of his favorite things, and he’ll happily place his front paws in your lap for hugs, and if you let him, he’d gladly curl up beside you on the couch or bed just to stay close. Boots bonds deeply with his humans and does well with both men and women. Boots has spent time around a 6-year-old child and did well, but loud voices, quick movements, and high-energy activity can make him anxious. Because of that, he would do best in a home with older children.

While he’s not formally leash trained, Boots walks nicely using a harness and responds well to guidance. He can be reactive with other dogs, so an obedience class or trainer might be considered. Boots can be crated when enticed with a treat, and rides well in the car.

He’s smart and very food motivated, which makes continued training both easy and rewarding. With treats and consistency, he’ll thrive learning new skills and routines. While he isn’t too interested in toys, Boots will chase tennis balls both indoors and outside. He’ll proudly bring the ball back to your general area, though he tends to keep possession until you gently take it from him.

Boots would truly shine as an only dog, but he could also live successfully with a compatible dog(s) with proper slow introductions. In the short time he’s been in foster care, he’s adapted to living in a pack, and gets along well with our resident Aussies.

He does show an interest in cats outside, so a cat-free home would likely be best.

Boots is crate trained, house trained, neutered, microchipped, fully vaccinated, and current on monthly heartworm prevention. He is currently being fostered in Georgetown and is ready to find the loving forever home he deserves.

If you’d like to learn more about Boots or are interested in adopting him, the first step is to complete an adoption application at the link below.

IMPORTANT: We do not deliver dogs to adopters – you must be able and willing to come meet the dog in their foster home. A home visit by one of our STAR volunteers is a required part of our adoption program and thus, adoptions outside of Texas are rare because of these two requirements. You must have a secure fence in place, and we are not fans of apartments for this breed, nor homes where the dogs will be home alone 8+ hours daily. All STAR dogs are adopted to be inside pets and family members only and all current or past pets in the home must have proof of being kept up to date on vaccinations and Heartworm prevention. The adoption fee is $300 and trust us, we spend that or much more on dogs to get them vetted – all STAR dogs will be neutered/spayed, up to date on vaccinations, microchipped, heartworm negative, and on monthly heartworm prevention. If you already have an application on file with us, you can contact us to let us know you are interested.

Boots is a handsome 5 year old blue merle male and weighs 48lbs.  He was a fan favorite at the Bell County Shelter where he was taken on 9 different occasions.  His owners didn’t feel the need to keep him in a fenced in yard.  They didn’t come back for him this last time either.  Welcome to STAR, Boots!!  Your life has just gotten a whole lot better.  Boots will be fostered in Georgetown where he will be vetted and neutered.  He should be ready for adoption Mid May.
