Deacon, STAR #2020

Handsome Deacon (left) is heading home with the Turner family. He also gains a fur buddy, Cosmo (right) and gets to have the run of some acreage and some livestock to watch. This active, busy family is excited to welcome a second dog into the home and there are lots of plans for ball chase, frisbee throwing, and they also like to hike on local trails. Thank you, Juli for a wonderful foster job and Brittnee for the home visit.

Deacon is a beautiful two-year-old, 48-pound, blue merle male with one blue eye, one brown eye, and a full tail!  He could easily be a breed ambassador with his stunning good looks, keen intelligence, and undying loyalty. He is a happy easy boy with so much love to give. He enjoys playing with other dogs, but he is all about his people. He would do well in a home with other dogs or as the one and only.

He enjoys playing with his young foster sister, does well with his older, grumpy foster brother, and likes all the neighborhood dogs he has met on our walks.  He does occasionally give a friendly hello bark when he sees another dog, but it’s all in fun.  He is good walking on a leash with his foster siblings and by himself, but he does pull some, especially when he sees a squirrel.  He doesn’t like buses, big trucks, or delivery vans and may attempt to herd them away.  A little training will easily correct this.

He is housetrained and is fine with the run of the house, including when no one is home, and he sleeps quietly all night in the bedroom with the pack.  Deacon loves all toys, hard ones, stuffed ones, bouncy ones etc. It is so cute when he tosses them in the air for himself or teases the other dogs with one.  He is usually on a mission to destroy or de-squeak, so once he has deconstructed soft toys, it’s best to throw them away since he will swallow small pieces of fabric.

Deacon is very food motivated and really wants to please, making him very easy to train.  He is also a bit of a counter surfer so be sure to keep an eye on him.  As soon as you tell him “Down”, he immediately complies.  He is a very sweet sensitive boy, so gentle corrections work best.

He does have a level of separation anxiety if left alone and is very unhappy in a crate. He’s great when left with other dogs as company if you need to leave home. He loves to play with other dogs and he’s a rough and tumble kind of guy, but not in an aggressive manner – he just loves to play.

Deacon is a loving dog that really wants to be your best friend. He is always excited and happy to see you, even if you just stepped out to check the mail.  He wants to do everything with you, chores, errands, gardening etc.  He’s great work from home coworker and loves cuddling and watching your favorite show.

Deacon does have a high prey drive, and we don’t recommend cats.

Deacon is fully vaccinated, neutered, and microchipped. When Deacon arrived with STAR, he was positive for heartworms and has been treated.

To learn more about him, please complete an application (our website, under “Adopt”).

Deacon is a Blue Merle Male, around estimated to be around 2 years old and 48lbs. He was found as a stray in the Conroe area. If this is your dog, please reach out to us and be prepared to show proof of ownership and to reimburse us for our expenses to date. Sadly, he is positive for heartworms and we’ll get those treated. His foster home is in Houston.  He may be available in September/October timeframe.
