ADOPTED
Rookie, STAR #1985
Rookie hit a home run! He came to us in rough shape after being hit by a car and general neglect. Post surgery and tons of TLC in his foster home, he was ready to find a soft place to land, and he’ll get that with Ann and his new fur buddy, Tessa. Morning walks, enrichment games, and of course more TLC is in his future. Thank you, Nancy for all the hard work in fostering and caring for Rookie.
Rookie came to STAR in bad shape. He’d been hit by a car and lucky for him, the finder got him to a vet and then contacted STAR. We were able to get him the surgery he needed to reset his fractured left, rear leg. He was also under weight and his coat in terrible shape with ticks/fleas and a skin infection. As expected, his recovery was a slow process – but his foster home took amazing care of him with lots of rest and TLC. He’s now ready to find his forever home that will give him all the lovin! From his foster mom:
“Rookie was very easy going through all of his medical care and was very timid at first. As he settled into our routine here and got to know his fur companions and me, he started to open up to learning about human and dog companionship. He is still a very quiet boy, but his spirit is recovering, and his Aussie Wiggle is returning. He will lay his head on your knee and relish a good ear rub.
He does not seem to have had any training but is ready and willing to learn. When offered treats, he’d prefer they be laid in front of him – as he’s cautious about taking it from my hand. He has put on some weight and initially, he thought everything that he found was food (including paper!). He’s much better at knowing food from “other” and is at a healthy weight.
His age is estimated between 6 and 8 years of age, but he shows the signs of a very challenging life to this point. He’s been fully vetted and also neutered while in STAR’s care. The vet and surgical vet have given him a check mark for health and wellness.
He gets along fine with my two Aussies (male and female). He’s timid with them and lets them run the show. He’s curious about everything, and cautious at the same time. Such a sweet, boy! He’s not been tested around cats or children – and I think he’d study both with caution and shyness, at least at first.
Now that he has experienced comfort and human companionship, he is ready to find his own home and begin the best phase of his life. I think the perfect home will be one where he gets to live in a comfortable spot and lots of belly rubs.”
