Mark, STAR #1888

We are happy to announce that Mark is heading home with STAR alumni family, the Colemans (Dakota, STAR #978 ’13). It was love at first sight when they spied Mark on our website, and knew he’d make a perfect buddy for Dakota.  Thank you, Brian for picking up and fostering Mark.

Mark landed with STAR after being found in Cleburne and not claimed after two months.  He’s an energetic, loving, 55-pound Brown Bi Male.

From his foster dad:

When he first arrived at our home, he was a bit unsure of the situation. Within 24 hours, he was making himself right at home!

He is mostly a gentle dog but will get excited and loves to snuggle. He will lay right on top of you to get as close as possible so that he can receive pets but usually when you are done, he will go lay back down on the floor.

He seems to like strangers although he does bark when he sees them through the window. So far, he has liked everyone he has met but really seems to love kids/females. When he gets excited or scared, he grins to show his teeth which can be a bit concerning at 1st, but he has never shown any signs of aggression towards humans.

He is a little protective of his bones and is fed separately from other dogs. Mark gets along with other dogs but is a bit of a bowling ball when it comes to play and sometimes needs to calm down. He does need play/exercise, or he will come let you know he wants to do something to release his energy. This will usually involve barking or pawing at your leg to try and get your attention.

If you leave your car door open, he will jump in and not want to get out. He does get a little car sick after about 45 minutes.

He is great on a leash (doesn’t pull) but also has done really well-off leash in controlled situations. So far, he hasn’t chased any deer, cars or tried to get to the chickens (he actually seems really uninterested in wild animals).

He likes to play frisbee/ball but hasn’t figured out that he needs to bring it back yet. He has always been potty-trained and has never had any sort of accident. His recall is great and is often let outside in unfenced areas but comes right back when called.

When Mark arrived, he was overweight but has been working to get down to a more manageable size. However, he acts like he is starved and if he is left alone for too long, he will go dig in the kitchen trash or even counter surf to see if there are any pans/plates to lick. He needs to be crated when left alone at home or at minimum, put in a room where he can’t cause trouble. Other than his occasionally barking and his tendency to dig in the trash, he has been one of the easiest fosters.”

To learn more about Mark for potential adoption, you must complete an Adoption Application [under “adopt” on our website].  Mark’s foster home is in Austin.

Mark was found in Cleburne, Tx.. He wandered into a yard and then into the house !!!  After several months of looking for his owner, he has come to STAR.. Mark is a red bi male, approx. 60 lbs. and around 3 years old.. A vet visit will give us more accurate information.. His fur had to be trimmed because one side of him was covered in melted green wax.. His foster home is in Austin and he should be available for adoption around the first of March.
